Barry has only grown more serious with each passing episode, especially as the stakes have increased, tensions have increased, and the drama has rightly escalated. The Bill Hader sitcom has become nearly as gloomy and depressing as any other show on television right now, after gradually veering away from its darkly humorous beginning. It’s possible that it’s even more so. Even the season finale this summer was so serious that you could get away with not laughing at all during the events that unfolded.
However, behind the scenes, things are quite different. And Henry Winkler’s ever-delightful Twitter, which offered us our first official peek at the forthcoming fourth season, provided the evidence. Barry Season 4 rehearsals, according to the happy actor, have been nothing but smiles. While we can expect this season’s action to be fierce, our three main characters, including Sarah Goldberg, appear to be having the time of their lives. No matter what happens in these upcoming eight episodes, one thing is for certain: it will be entertaining.
If the next season is anywhere like as good as the last three, these three are ready for another terrific season of television. If they’re on their first day of rehearsals, the cameras should be rolling sooner rather than later. Season 3’s rehearsals and production were put on hold indefinitely because of the COVID-19 epidemic. Hopefully, this season will go more smoothly. It’s not certain if Barry will return for a fifth season after this one. It’s not certain whether or not the show will continue after this season. Hader, as showrunner, performer, writer, and director, has been ambiguous regarding the future.
If this is indeed the final episode of the critically praised series, it’s not because our three main actors aren’t excited about it. They’re definitely in love, and we can only hope that their next season, which is expected to premiere next year, will be even better. This tweet has a minor amusement value, but it’s worth noticing. Winkler closed the tweet by adding “HAPPY” in all captions, as though Goldberg and Winkler’s large, wide toothy grins don’t transmit their pleasure to Winkler’s million followers, instead of the official Barry Twitter account (though the username, @hbo barry, seems authentic).
With all the characters scattered throughout the globe (literally and emotionally) in Season 4, it’s tough to predict how things will play out in the new season, which premieres this fall. Season three’s conclusion had the effect of drawing the story to a close in some senses, but there are still several unresolved narrative points that fans hope would be handled in this last season. Hader’s work in front and behind the camera continues to astound each year, and this season will definitely be his most challenging, especially since he plans to direct all eight episodes this year. While Winkler and Goldberg’s performances continue to grow and amaze, it’ll be interesting to watch where they go from here on out.
Barry’s fourth season left many questions unsolved. In any event, it appears that Winkler and his co-stars are having a fantastic time filming.
