New footage from House of Darkness, the latest in a long line of spooky horror films, was revealed today. Neil LaBute has written and directed the picture, which stars Justin Long and Kate Bosworth. On September 9, House of Darkness will be released in cinemas, and on September 13 it will be accessible on demand and digitally. A drink is shared between Long and Bosworth’s characters in front of a fireplace in the trailer’s opening shot. The fact that Long drove Bosworth home after she got stuck at a bar is subsequently disclosed. Long is startled by a creaking noise in her house just as their talk appears to be moving toward something more sexual.
In the middle of the night, Long realises that they are not alone in the home, and he wakes up in a basement with frightening growling sounds echoing around him. It may appear at first glance that this trailer violates the cardinal sin of overexposure, but it appears that there may be more in store for spectators. According to the teaser, House of Darkness is based on Bram Stoker’s “timeless story” and is a “reimagining.” hinting that this is a modernization of his renowned horror novel, Dracula.
There are no vampires or typical vampire iconography in the trailer, so we’re left to use our imaginations. It’s possible that the movie itself will be a surprise. House of Darkness and Zach Cregger’s Barbarian, both of which will be released on September 9th, mark Long’s return to the horror genre. Fans of horror films such as Drag Me To Hell, Jeepers Creepers, and Tusk have already seen him in roles in these flicks. Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story and Galaxy Quest are two of his most well-known comedy appearances.
As a leading lady, Bosworth has appeared in such films as 21, Superman Returns and Still Alice. Gia Crovatin and Lucy Walters appear with them in the film. LaBute wrote and directed House of Darkness. They are perhaps best known for directing and writing The Wicker Man, which stars Nicolas Cage. Along with Death at a Funeral and the occasional episode of Hell on Wheels or Billions, he has directed a number of other projects. Beginning on September 9th, House of Darkness will be accessible in select cinemas, as well as on-demand and digitally.
