Here is the first look at The Lair, the new horror film by The Descent director Neil Marshall and starring Charlotte Kirk that was acquired by AMC Networks’ business unit RLJE Films and its genre streaming service Shudder just one day after it was acquired and just one month before its premiere at FrightFest. All three of the film’s main protagonists, Captain Kate Sinclair (Kirk), Mark Arends (Dwayne), and Kabir (Hadi Khanjanpour), are featured in the latest series of photographs. A Royal Air Force pilot, Kate Sinclair, gets shot down in Afghanistan and seeks sanctuary in an abandoned bunker, unintentionally releasing half-human, half-alien man-made bioweapons known as the Ravagers. The Lair follows Kirk’s character, Kate Sinclair. Just one day after the announcement that RLJE Films and Shudder had signed a deal for the North American rights to the picture, these photographs were released.
In his future film, Marshall stated: For the first time since “The Descent” and “Dog Soldiers,” I’m back in the realm of full-blooded action-horror, and this picture has a lot in common with those two films. A little independent film that was meant to be shot during a lockdown became something a lot more action-packed and monster-fueled with a sci-fi twist as my vision for the picture expanded. Aside from gruesome death scenes and interesting characters, this film is jam-packed with fun and entertaining elements. I want people to have a good time while seeing this movie. They won’t be let down, in my opinion. The set opens with a headshot of Kirk, followed by a view of him standing in complete darkness, lighted only by a glow stick’s luminous green light.
Photos of Arends’ Pvt. Everette with full military attire and weapon face one of the Ravagers, with a shocked expression on his face, in the other two images, as well. In the fourth shot, one of the Ravagers has Khanjanpour in its grasp. Yet, these photographs do depict some of the film’s monsters; however, they are generally displayed in shadows, teasing the beast while still retaining that all-too-important terror of mystery. Jonathan Howard, Jamie Bamber, Tanji Kibong, Leon Ockenden, Mark Strepan, Harry Taurasi, Alex Morgan, Adam Bond, Sarah Lambie, Kibong Tanji, and Troy Alexander round out the cast, which also features Kirk, Arends, and Khanjanpour. Along with Marshall, Kirk served as the film’s co-writer and executive producer, along with Samantha Allwinton, Reinhard Besser, Phil Rymer, Joe Simpson, and Simon Williams.
The two also acted as the film’s executive producers. Producers for the project are Daniel-Konrad Cooper and Kwesi Dickson and Jonathan Halperyn. Rather Good Films Ltd. is in charge of the project’s production. Ashland Hill Media Finance, Ingenious, and Trigger Films are providing funding for the film. The film’s worldwide sales are being handled by Highland Film Group. Shudder will stream The Lair when it hits cinemas and digital and VOD on October 28, and the picture will also be available on those platforms early in 2019.
Synopsis
