Sebastian Stan appears to be able to thoroughly immerse himself in each role he takes on. Stan appears to have no boundaries when it comes to his ability to commit to a part, whether it’s as the unstoppable idiot Jeff Gillooly in I, Tonya or as the cannibalistic seducer in Fresh. And his most recent part in Aaron Schimberg’s A Different Man demonstrates this more clearly than any other. Stan also gave us a sneak peek at his upcoming role in an Instagram post, which gave us a look at yet another memorable character. Stan’s newest Instagram shot features him as Edward, his newest persona, in full make-up.
Reconstructive surgeries are what Edward wants to do for himself in the novel A Different Man. Because of his obsession with a guy who plays Edward’s prior, pre-surgery persona in a theatre show, Edward’s quest for a new life becomes more difficult. Stan’s face has been radically reworked in the new photograph, which portrays him peering out of the stark blackness of the background. An initial look at the project is provided by this photograph. “Edward” is all that is written on the image, which appears to be an oil painting rather than a movie still. This is Pearson’s second time working with Schimberg, having previously collaborated with him on the 2018 film Chained for Life, about a gorgeous 1950s actress who fights with her own biases about the physical peculiarities of her costar.
Also joining the cast will be Renate Reinsve, fresh off her role as The Worst Person in the World in The Worst Person in the World 2. A24 is the studio behind the film A Different Man. Production will be handled by Killer Films’ Christine Vachon and Gabriel Mayers. The film will be produced by Grand Motel Films’ Vanessa McDonnell and Jason Reif. Sebastian Stan, the film’s leading man, is also one of the project’s executive producers. This month, filming began on the project. Our initial peek at Aaron Schimberg’s newest project barely scratches the surface of what we may expect to learn about our complex connection with our own conception of “the self” in the coming months.
