Serpent Queen’s new trailer has just been published by STARZ and gives us our first glimpse at the royal historical drama with an unusually cutting edge. As one of France’s most powerful and influential monarchs during her lifetime, Catherine de Medici is the subject of a new television series. For that outside of North America, the show will premiere on September 11 at 8:00 PM Eastern Time on STARZ and be accessible via the STARZ app and the STARZPLAY app following. The Serpent Queen, played by Samantha Morton, is revealed in the new teaser, which was published today.
For the trailer, we see Catherine de Medici’s remarkable and nasty life in a fourth-wall-breaking biographical format that shows us her exceptional and despicable existence. For the trailer, the use of a current soundtrack produces an energetic and punk-like tone. “Medici Bitch,” the series premiere, will follow Catherine as she tells her life story to her new servant Rahima, suitably named “Medici Bitch” (Sennia Nanua). The orphaned Catherine marries into the stifling 16th-century French court at the tender age of 14. Catherine’s status as a commoner makes her marriage unique at the time. Her uncle Pope Clement (Charles Dance), on the other hand, has ensured that she will one day be treated like a princess.
After discovering that her new spouse is unfaithful, Catherine’s hopes of a loving marriage are destroyed. It is Catherine’s own cunning and nastiness that will let her survive when her foolish dreams are destroyed. Both Morton and Liv Hill, who are no strangers to historical dramas, take on the roles of Catherine de Medici at their respective ages. On the show, you’ll see the likes of Colm Meaney, Kiruna Stamell and Barry Atsma with Rupert Everett and Amrita Acharia as well as Antonia Clarke and Adam Garcia alongside Beth Goddard and Raza Jaffrey.
The book Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France by Leonie Frieda served as the inspiration for The Serpent Queen. Creator Justin Haythe, who has previously worked on Revolutionary Road, Red Sparrow and The Lone Ranger is behind the new series. Eight episodes are featured in the series. Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment produce it for STARZ. September 11th is the premiere date for The Serpent Queen.
