According to an exclusive story from The Wrap, following the critical and financial success of the Creed films and the release of a third feature later this year, MGM is currently working on a spinoff centred on Drago. Robert Lawton has been hired to write the script for the spin-off movie. Dolph Lundgren will play Ivan Drago, while Florian Munteanu will play his son Viktor Drago in the next film. Plot specifics are yet unknown, but the movie is said to revolve around the characters. Prior to Sex & Sushi and Crave, Lawton was the director and screenwriter for Sex & Sushi and Crave.
Becoming Rocky, a documentary about the creation of the famous 1976 picture, was one of the filmmaker’s prior forays into the series. Lawton would earn a Nicholl Fellowship in 2021 as a result of the script. Rocky IV, which starred Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa, introduced Ivan Drago as the series’ primary nemesis following Apollo Creed’s death and introduced Ivan Drago as the franchise’s primary antagonist in 1985. (Carl Weathers). It wasn’t until Creed II, starring Dolph Lundgren as Apollo Creed’s son Viktor versus Jordan’s Adonis Creed, that Lundgren would return to the role. Due to his brutal fighting style and long-standing rivalry with Rocky, Drago is one of the most recognisable characters from the original series.
With a Drago spinoff in the works, viewers of the series may be able to have a better understanding of the characters’ connection. Rocky spinoff Creed debuted in 2015, with Sylvester Stallone reprising his renowned role as Adonis Creed and introducing him as the new series protagonist. Stallone was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in the first film, which was directed by Ryan Coogler. Jordan will helm the third Creed picture, which will include the return of Viktor Drago. November 23 is the date of the film’s release. The popular boxing series doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon as the Creed series continues to maintain a constant momentum with the creation of a Drago spinoff. As the project is still in its infancy, no information about its release date or cast has been made public.
