Fans of Eragon need not worry any longer, as author Christopher Paolini has revealed that a new adaptation has been announced. This morning, Paolini came to Twitter to clarify and respond to the “unplanned” announcement he made earlier this week. “An Eragon television series is in production at Disney+, and I’m attached to both co-write and produce!” Paolini announced on his Twitter account. His enthusiasm for the project and for the team was mentioned before he went on. “We’ve been waiting a long time for this. I don’t know how many meetings, phone calls, and emails it took to get here. And we’re only at the beginning of our journey!
Nevertheless, none of this would have been possible without the support and participation of everyone who has read and supported the books throughout the years.” In 2021, the hashtag #EragonRemake became a trendy topic among fans who wanted a fresh version of the cherished series. He claims he’s devoted to “ensuring that this version of Eragon’s narrative… comes up to your greatest anticipation” with this Disney+ adaptation. The 2006 film adaptation by 20th Century Fox was a major letdown to fans.
This follows. Eragon was played by Ed Speelers, who was joined by Rachel Weisz, Jeremy Irons, Garrett Hedlund, and John Malkovich in the movie, which was released in 2010. Paolini also said in his statement that he plans to release two new books in 2023. With Eragon, Disney+ has also made a statement comparing the project to what they’re doing with Percy Jackson, another young adult adaptation: Working on a Disney+ version of Eragon with Christopher is a dream come true. 20th Century Fox and D+ are giving us the opportunity to bring these stories to the big screen in the way their millions of fans deserve, much as they did with Percy Jackson.”
Initially, Variety reported that Paolini will also serve as showrunner on the project, in addition to writing and producing. They are searching for “a showrunner/partner who will help us bring [the] Eragon tale] to screens throughout the world,” which contradicts Salke’s comments. Variety has made the necessary revisions to its original story to reflect these alterations. The four books in the Inheritance Cycle will be adapted for the Disney+ series. At the age of eighteen, Paolini released the first book in the series before going on to write the following three. To date, the series has sold millions of copies worldwide and made Paolini a best-selling author at a relatively early age. His 2018 short story collection, The Fork, the Witch, and the Worm, is the follow-up to The Inheritance Cycle. Below you’ll find an interview with Paolini in which he discusses Inheritance, the series’ penultimate book. Also, be sure to have a look at Paolini’s tweet on the news!
