According to The Hollywood Reporter, a weird biopic about renowned science fiction novelist Philip K. Dick is presently in production. Isa Hackett, Dick’s daughter and an Amazon writer and producer, is penning the script for the film, which will be called Jane in honour of Dick’s twin sister who died six weeks after she was born. Winners of Academy Awards Currently, Charlize Theron and Alfonso Cuarón are just slated to produce the Amazon movie, although Theron and Cuarón are also being considered for the major roles. Jane was written by Hackett as a “genre-bending” screenplay in order to communicate the author’s father’s extraordinary real-life narrative in a highly intimate way. Six weeks after Dick and Jane’s birth, their baby sister died of an unknown cause.
The author’s sorrow was so great that the absence of his sister haunted him for the rest of his life and shaped his creative output. For her father’s sake, his daughter decided to tell the story of Jane’s life through the eyes of the character she grew up with. An alternate universe similar to that in which he lived and worked is the setting for Hackett’s script, which she explained in detail. “I’ve been thinking about Jane’s story ever since I was a little kid. My father’s life revolved around his twin sister Jane, who died in infancy. Philip K. Dick’s film will transcend the rules of biography and embrace the other world he so badly desired—that his darling sister survived through the six-week mark. In telling his narrative, we’ll use her as a filter to view him and his creative side.
There is no greater way to respect him than to fulfil his wish, even only on the screen.” The strange life of novelist Charles Dickens, who died in 1982, is being reexamined for the first time in forty years. There have been several film adaptations of his work, notably Blade Runner and Total Recall, but this year has seen a lot of attention paid to the man himself. Only Apparently Real, a biopic based on the life of Air Force One producer Jon Shestack, was announced in June.
However, the project’s director and actors were still pending at the time. Instead of using a novel approach to depict her father, Hackett’s film will use a more conventional biographical approach. Actress Charlize Theron, who won an Academy Award for her performance as convicted serial murderer Aileen Wuornos in Monster, will produce the picture. Theron has been in action films like Fast & Furious and Atomic Blonde, as well as science fiction films like Prometheus, Quantum Flux, and most recently, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness in Disney’s MCU.
Actor Charlton Heston serves as a producer on a number of Netflix originals, including Atomic Blonde and Monster. Is Charlize Theron in Jane? She has a history of starring in her own films, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility. Cuarón, who is also producing, is a seasoned writer, producer, and filmmaker who has won many Oscars. In addition to Gravity, which starred Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, he also wrote and directed Children of Men and the 2016 film Roma. Two Oscar nominations for A Little Princess, one of Cuarón’s first films, landed him a fan-favourite role in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Even if Cuarón does not end up directing Jane, the film is still being developed with him in mind. An official release date has not yet been set for Jane’s film, which is still in the early stages of development.
