A Jazzman’s Blues, Tyler Perry’s forthcoming Netflix drama, is finally receiving a first look at the multi-hyphenated creative’s 27-year-old idea. Perry is in charge of writing, directing, and producing “a tale of forbidden love.” Even though the narrative is still a mystery, it is expected to be filled with scandals, secrets, and a cold case murder. The cast features Joshua Boone, Solea Pfeiffer, Brent Antonello, Brad Benedict, Ryan Eggold, Milauna Jemai Jackson, Kario Marcel, Austin Scott, and Rob Wood. Among the woods and vast fields can be seen a period piece that Netflix posted to its Twitter account today.
We can see Pfeiffer and Boone, our presumed star-crossed lovers, in this picture. Pfeiffer’s figure rests on a tree branch with her feet hanging from it while wearing a patterned dress with a large neckpiece. As she holds a book in her hands, it looks like Boone’s character has arrived to speak with her. She doesn’t appear concerned by Boone’s presence, as she leans in to listen intently to anything he has to say. While wearing a white button-down shirt and peach-coloured pants, Boone looks up at Pfeiffer with a sliver of joy. The more time you spend looking at the picture, the more obvious the relationship between the two becomes. The drama is Perry’s second film to be released in 2022. A Madea Homecoming, the thirteenth film in his Madea-centric world, was released in late February.
Until this year’s A Madea Family Funeral, the only time we’d seen the grandmother’s exaggerated antics was in A Madea Homecoming. With Don’t Look Up, PAW Patrol: The Movie, and Those Who Wish Me Dead, Perry has been active in the acting world for the past several years. The Netflix thriller A Fall from Grace, in which he also played and produced, will be released in 2020. The imagery and description for A Jazzman’s Blues hint at a new aspect of Perry’s career as a filmmaker of romantic comedies: that of a romantic drama. Based on what we know about the plot and the chemistry between the performers, we think it’s going to be a tearjerker.
Netflix will premiere A Jazzman’s Blues on September 23, 2022.
