For those who haven’t seen the film yet, 20th Century Studios has produced a new teaser trailer for Barbarian, which premieres on September 9. Georgina Campbell plays Tess in 20th Century Studios’ YouTube video, which shows her rummaging through several shelves and looking around in a dimly lit basement. Behind the shelf, she discovers a rope tethered to the concrete wall. The rope is slowly being pulled out of the hole in the wall as she carefully tugs on it. Pulling the rope causes a doorway to appear within the wall. As she gets closer to the eerie entrance, spooky music begins to play. In the hidden chamber, there’s no light to be found.
As the camera closes in on the room, the tension mounts. Campbell’s “nope” at the end of the tape reflects the sentiment of most people in such circumstances. While the clip does not disclose what’s inside the secret chamber, it does a good job of capturing the intensity of the film and Campbell’s character’s reactions to the situations she finds herself in. Tess and Keith, played by Bill Skarsgrd, who previously portrayed Pennywise the Clown in It, share a rented house. After a few days, it becomes clear that the home is hiding something far more dreadful than she had anticipated. The property that Tess and Keith are living in looks to hold something ominous as secrets begin to be revealed in the film’s first teaser. Specific narrative specifics of the film remain unclear. There are more questions than answers in the newly-released footage, which just adds to the intrigue.
A look at the house’s evil nature and motives will be revealed later this year when Barbarian is released in theatres. Zach Cregger wrote and directed the picture, which has Campbell, Skarsgrd, Justin Long, Matthew Patrick Davis, Richard Brake, Jaymes Butler, and Kurt Braunohler in the cast. In addition to Milchan, Lee, Margules, and Lifshitz, the film’s producers are Yariv Milchan, Michael Schaefer, and Natalie Lehmann, as well as executive producers Danny Chan, and Alex Lebovici, and Skarsgrd. On September 9, the film Barbarian will be released exclusively in cinemas.
