The Undeclared War, a new Peacock original drama series set in the near future, has just released a teaser video that promises a fascinating cat-and-mouse game in the midst of growing cyber warfare. On August 18, the series will be available on the streaming service for the first time. Saara Parvan, played by Hannah Khalique-Brown, is a GCHQ intern who tries to uncover the riddle of a cyber-attack that took place in the UK prior to the general election. Retaliation is discussed, and the Prime Minister, represented by Adrian Lester, announces a state of emergency in the last scene. As things continue to heat up, mayhem breaks out in the streets. During the events of the film, Simon Pegg’s character states, “They attack us again, we increase the stakes another notch, and before you know it, we’re into a cycle of escalation and a catastrophic loss of life.”
The final scenes depict rioting in the streets as a show promises a conspiracy that is “much worse than anything by Snowden,” as depicted in the teaser. However, the video manages to effectively tease an exhilarating experience that viewers may expect when they tune in to the event. When the episode debuts on Peacock later this summer, viewers will learn the truth behind the cyberattacks.
Peter Kosminsky, who wrote and directed the series, said:
A decade of preparation has gone into the undeclared war. A struggle that will go unnoticed by the general public, but which might have far-reaching implications, is envisioned here. In my work, I’ve attempted to shed light on parts of public policy that touch us all, yet the specifics of what’s going on, frequently behind the scenes, are obscured. I think this film will provide viewers with a glimpse into a world that will have a profound influence on our lives in the years to come.”
The Undeclared War, because of Kosminsky’s meticulous attention to detail, offers a realistic look at a new facet of cyber warfare on television. In addition to writing and directing, Colin Callender and Nolette Buckley collaborate with Kosminsky as executive producers on the show. The show’s creators and producers are Declan Lawn, Adam Patterson, and Amelia Spencer, with Robert Jones serving as the show’s executive producer. Mark Rylance, Alex Jennings and Maisie Richardson-Sellers co-star with Khalique-Brown and Pegg in this sci-fi drama. On August 18, Peacock will begin broadcasting The Undeclared War.
Summation of the plot
Set in 2024, The Undeclared War follows a secretive team of GCHQ analysts seeking to prevent a wave of cyberattacks on the United Kingdom in the run-up to a parliamentary election. For Saara Parvan (Hannah Khalique-Brown), 21, the stakes couldn’t be higher. A routine stress test of internet infrastructure goes horribly wrong, and she finds herself on the front lines of high-stakes cyber warfare. Developed by BAFTA Award-winning creator Peter Kosminsky, the series sheds new light on the most pressing issue of our time: climate change. Saara and the GCHQ team are playing a game of cat and mouse in which they must strive to remain one step ahead of their adversaries and predict they’re every secret move. With time running out, a fight with high stakes and unpredictable opponents is being waged in the virtual world. However, how can you win a battle that most people are unaware of?
