The Guardians of the Galaxy, everyone’s favourite band of space misfits, will be making a triumphant comeback to the big screen, Marvel Studios revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con presentation on Saturday. New footage from the film was shown to a rapt audience in the hallowed Hall H, hinting at the return of some cherished recognised faces as well as the introduction of new characters. The role of the High Evolutionary was revealed to be played by actor Chukwudi Iwuji, who previously worked with writer-director James Gunn on the HBO Max series Peacemaker. Fans also got a sneak peek at Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock in the clip shown to them.
The introduction of a juvenile Rocket Raccoon, though, may have signalled the film’s direction more than anything else. In spite of the fact that the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films dabbled in dark themes, the official description for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hints that the film that concludes the trilogy will be more intense than previously believed. It’s here: ‘Our beloved band of misfits are looking a little different these days in Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,’ said one fan. A grieving Peter Quill must assemble his crew to defend the universe while also safeguarding one of their own, Gamora, who has been presumed dead. It’s a mission that might spell the end of the Guardians as we know them if it fails.”
At the Comic-Con event, Gunn was quoted as remarking that Rocket had “got to be the saddest creature in the universe.” This will be the first time that Rocket’s terrible background will be examined in a more meaningful way. With a worldwide total of $770 million, the first Guardians of the Galaxy film was a critical and financial shocker in 2014. The sequel, which came out in 2017, was even more successful, grossing over $860 million worldwide despite the fact that the reviews weren’t as positive. It’s been a bumpy ride for the third instalment, to say the least. Resurrected past tweets of Gunn’s caused him to lose his job on the picture in 2018.
Till then, he had already signed on to film The Suicide Squad for DC Films’ competitor DC Comics and was rehired by the series’ primary actors in 2019. After Gunn finished Peacemaker, he began working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Groot, Rocket, Pom Klementieff, Sylvester Stallone, Karen Gillan, Elizabeth Debicki and Maria Bakalova star in the next Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 films, which will be released on May 5th, 2023, in theatres. I Am Groot & the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will launch on Disney+ in August and December, respectively.
