Fans may now shout, “groovy!” after an interview with Evil Dead actor Bruce Campbell at San Diego Comic-Con 2022. Ash vs. Evil Dead’s three-season animated series was cancelled in 2018, but a new series might be in the works, according to Campbell in a recent interview. Campbell explained that because his voice hasn’t changed much over the years and still resembles Ash Williams from the original Evil Dead films, it would be simpler to depict the future of the franchise through animation. Because of this, he said, “You can do the future a lot simpler with animation. You know, my voice hasn’t been as damaged as my body, so I’m still capable of doing that shit. So I’ll continue to work on the video game. Already an animated [series] is in the works.”
Campbell has previously voiced Ash in Dead by Daylight and Evil Dead: The Game, both of which were published in May 2022. We have heard that the series will be animated at some point, but we have no idea when or what the narrative will be. We can only imagine there will be a chainsaw and a boomstick somewhere along the road. For those who haven’t seen Raimi’s acclaimed Evil Dead films, Ash vs. Evil Dead is the follow-up series that was cancelled after three seasons on Starz because of low ratings in the second and third seasons.
Since its inception in 2015, the number of people who tuned in on the same day has steadily decreased, with the last show attracting 174,000 viewers and the second-to-last episode attracting just 130,000. (sans DVR). On the 28th of April, 2018, the show ended. In Ash vs. Evil Dead, Campbell reprised his role as Ash Williams, the series’ protagonist. After Ash returns from the Army of Darkness 30 years later, he must leave his everyday existence behind in order to face the forces of the Evil Dead once more.
