During Apple TV+’s first appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, the streaming service announced that For All Mankind had been renewed for Season 4. As a result of the series’ alternate history, the race to the Moon would have been accelerated if the Soviet Union had arrived there first rather than the United States. Apple TV+ invited the show’s creators and executive producers, Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi, to speak at the SDCC For All Mankind panel. Maril Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Shantel VanSanten, Jodi Balfour, Sonya Walger, Krys Marshall, Cynthy Wu, Casey Johnson, Coral Pea, and Wrenn Schmidt were also in attendance.
The cast & crew of For All Mankind discussed what it was like to create a fictional world based on real events, as well as what the show’s future holds. Apple TV+ debuted For All Mankind Season 3 on June 10 of this year. While set in the 1990s, the new season examines how USSR and US set their sights on Mars. According to both countries, sending humans to Mars would give them the edge in the race for space. Problems arise when the private sector decides to explore Mars on its own, free of political restraints.
On the journey to Mars, each of the three missions encountered adversity, but they all departed together. Season 3 is currently focusing on the repercussions, both on Earth and Mars, of the ongoing battle for space. Apple TV+ has just announced that the series has been renewed for a second season, which only heightens our anticipation for what’s to come in the remaining episodes. For All Mankind had a season dedicated to a different era in history. The first season is set in the 1970s and looks at how a Soviet lunar mission had an impact on US politics and culture at the time.
A decade after the events of Season 1, the human race’s technological advancement may be seen as the result of the race for space, with science at the heart of society. Season 4 is likely to be set in the 2000s, after Season 3’s time shift to the 1990s. If For All Mankind continues to be a hit, the show’s timeframe might surpass that of natural history after a few seasons. An exciting breakthrough would allow For All Mankind to completely embrace its sci-fi vision. Until August 12, For All Mankind will be available on Apple TV+ in new episodes each Friday.
