Showrunner Rafe Judkins released the first footage from the second season of The Wheel of Time at Prime Video’s panel for The Wheel of Time: Origins. Fans around the world were ecstatic to learn that the show has been resurrected for a third season in addition to this sneak look. Almost everyone from the first season will be back for season 2, including Rosamund Pike, Josha Stradowski, Marcus Rutherford, Zo Robins, Madeleine Madden, and Daniel Henney. There will be a change in the character of Mat Cauthon in Season 2, with Dónal Finn taking over the role and following through on the darker route hinted at in the Season 1 conclusion.
Some of the returning cast members will be joined by some newcomers in Season 2, including Ayoola Smart and Ceara Coveney as well as Natasha O’Keeffe and Gregg Chillingirian. We get a taste of what to anticipate from Season 2 by watching this behind-the-scenes look at several best scenes from the show’s second season, including Moiraine (Pike) walking along the coast, a high-speed scene of riders charging across barren land and a shirtless Lan training, as well as a slew of epic battles and conflict that will await viewers when The Wheel of Time returns. “I’m so delighted that we’ll be making a third season of The Wheel of Time,” Judkins said in the press release announcing all the fantastic Wheel of Time news. When I initially proposed the show years and years ago, The Shadow Rising was my favourite book in the series, so it’s an honour to be able to bring it to television and introduce new audiences to the stories that made me fall in love with these novels in the first place.”
Season 1 contained narrative aspects from numerous books, so it’s intriguing to see him mention Jordan’s fourth novel, The Shadow Rising, as the gang continues their perilous voyage. Season 2 Darren Lemke (Shazam!, Goosebumps, Winter Dragon), Ted Field and Mike Weber of Radar Pictures (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Winter Dragon), and Marigo Kehoe (Shazam!, Goosebumps, Winter Dragon) also serve as executive producers with Judkins. The return of The Wheel of Time has not yet been announced.
