In order to establish that House Targaryen’s authority is here to stay, the Targaryens have arrived. HBO has unveiled the official teaser for House of the Dragon, a prequel to Game of Thrones that takes place during one of Westeros’s most tumultuous civil wars and stars Matt Smith and Olivia Cooke. In the final episode of Westeros, we watched the Targaryen queen Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) struggle to take the Iron Throne, which she achieved, but only for a short period.
However, in the House of the Dragon teaser, we learn that the Targaryen women’s quest for dominance is a longstanding one. After King Viserys I Targaryen’s death, Westeros is in upheaval, as shown in the trailer (Paddy Considine). As one of the councilmen reminds out, “no queen has ever sat on the Iron Throne.” Despite precedent, Rhaenyra Targaryen (Mily Alcock/Emma D’Arcy), Viserys’ daughter, would be left in charge of Westeros. Rhaenyra refuses to be deterred by the scepticism of a few men, no matter what they have to say.
Daemon Targaryen, Rhaenyra’s uncle, stands in the way of her legitimate claim to the throne, thinking himself to be the true successor of their father, Prince Daemon (Matt Smith). This is a significantly more personal power struggle amongst the Targaryen clans than in Game of Thrones, which saw a number of families compete for dominance in Westeros. Daemon and Rhaenyra are expected to ride dragons in the series, and the video gives us a glimpse of the frightening monsters they will encounter. Additionally, the cast features Olivia Cooke (Rhys Ifans), Eve Best (Eve Best), Emily Carey (Eve Best), and Sonoya Mizuno (Sonoya Mizuno).
Condal and Sapochnik are showrunners, with Ramin Djawadi returning to Westeros to create House of the Dragon’s soundtrack. Based on the 2018 novel Fire & Blood, the ten-episode series is a continuation of the original storyline. On the 21st of August, HBO Max will air the first two episodes of the HBO Original Series House of the Dragon.
