The legendary boxer Mike Tyson has been shown to have developed into a brutal fighter from an early age in the new Hulu teaser for their forthcoming limited series “Mike.” Furthermore, it provides a look into his numerous run-ins with the police and dubious behaviour that make him so difficult to judge. The series, created by Steven Rogers and his I, Tonya creative team, will debut on the streamer on August 25. It all begins with Mike (Trevante Rhodes) characterising himself as a savage in the ring, which sets the tone for the remaining of the film. One of the most feared fighters of his age, Tyson rose to the stature of a legend in the sport and beyond.
That’s not what Mike wants us to believe, though. Mike (Ethan Barrett) is then shown escaping from a bunch of bullies who had trapped him and beaten him severely. It shows all the terrible parts of Mike’s upbringing while playing a lecture from his mother, from committing robberies to getting incarcerated. Mike turned to fight as a way to cope with his difficult circumstances, and he credits the squalid ring where he trained as the source of his character.
When faced with hardship, he chose to fight instead of giving up, a choice that would change the course of his whole life. Everyone, with the exception of his mother, urged Mike to battle on regardless of the circumstances. Cus D’Amato (Harvey Keitel), his father figure and coach, instructed him to be ruthless in order to rise to the top. While Tyson’s success and immortality came with controversy, the tape indicates that the success and immortality also came with prison terms, addictions, and general charges of villainy that plagued his career.
In Mike’s own comments and those of others, it is evident that he had always longed for someone to love him. He freely wonders what he’d be doing if he wasn’t the champion and who would even notice. As a whole, it paints a complex picture of the boxer, showing him as more than simply the cold-blooded assassin he portrays on the ring floor. A star-studded ensemble includes Rhodes, who also serves as an executive producer; Barrett; Keitel; Russell Hornsby; Li Eubanks; Olunike Adeli; B.J. Minor; and Russell Hornsby.
Showrunner Karin Gist worked closely with creator/executive producer Rogers to bring this project to life. For example, Gist co-created the sitcom Our Kind of People and has written for Grey’s Anatomy, Revenge, and Girlfriends, among others. Under her Gist of It imprint, she also serves as an executive producer. The remaining cast is made up of former members of I, Tonya. Craig Gillespie, Bryan Unkeless, Scott Morgan of Clubhouse Pictures, and Tom Ackerley and Margot Robbie of LuckyChap are all executive producers on the film.
Darin Friedman, Anthony Hemingway, Anthony Sparks, and Samantha Corbin-Miller all serve as executive producers for Entertainment 360. The show is produced by 20th Television on Hulu as well.
On August 25, Mike will be available on Hulu.
