Not the kind that causes you to sneeze, but a different kind of pollen. Filming has begun on the 3rd season of Bridgerton, Netflix’s massively popular Regency romance series. Romance novelists Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton will star as Penelope and Colin Bridgerton in the third season, which will break with convention by not following the third book in the series (An Offer from a Gentleman). Cast members Jonathan Bailey, Adjoah Andoh, Luke Thompson, Claudia Jesse, and Golda Rosheuvel held up two fingers before changing them to three in celebration of the new season, which was revealed by the streaming service. Hannah Dodd, who will replace Ruby Stokes as Francesca Bridgerton in the show, is also featured in the clip.
There is no sign of Simone Ashley, the breakthrough star of Season 2, who plays Kate Bridgerton, Viscountess Bridgerton, in this new film, despite her having said earlier this year, “I’ll be back.” Before revealing Coughlan’s seat in the carriage, Newton makes the identical hand motion as his co-stars in an announcement film. Newton follows Coughlan inside the carriage and closes the door after the news that the season is now under production.
However, ardent Polin fans will go into a frenzy since the two have a memorable encounter in a carriage similar to that in their book. Netflix has handed fans of the Bridgerton family a scoop worth of Lady Whistledown, as three new gentlemen will be making their debut among the tonne in the next social season. There will be a new addition to the cast with Daniel Francis taking on the role of Marcus Anderson.
As Gentleman Debling, “a jovial lord with peculiar hobbies,” and Harry Dankworth, “a guy who makes up for his lack of brains with dashing good looks,” Sam Phillips and James Phoon will star in the film. Could these three guys be fighting for Penelope’s affections until Colin comes to his senses in the upcoming season, which is scheduled to centre on Penelope actively contemplating the marriage market? The third season of Bridgerton is now in the works.
Synopsis:
Following last season’s revelation that Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) had made derogatory remarks about Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), Bridgerton returns for a third season under the direction of new showrunner Jess Brownell from Shondaland. To maintain her double-life as Lady Whistledown, away from her mother and sisters, she has decided it’s time for a marriage, one who can give the necessary freedom. Penelope’s attempts to find a husband backfire horribly because she lacks self-confidence. He’s back from his summer travels sporting a fresh haircut and an air of confidence.
His disappointment is compounded when he realises he’s being shunned by Penelope, the one person who’s always seen the best in him. Colin is eager to earn back Penelope’s friendship, so he offers to help her find a husband this season by teaching her how to be confident. However, as Colin’s teachings begin to work better than expected, he must decide whether or not his emotions for Penelope go beyond friendship. Meanwhile, Penelope’s relationship with Eloise (Claudia Jessie), who has made a new friend in an odd place, is becoming increasingly strained, and she finds it increasingly difficult to maintain her Lady Whistledown persona in the tonne.
