A new trailer for the romantic comedy Gigi & Nate from Roadside Attractions has been released. Nate Gibson, an 18-year-old high school student, experiences a near-fatal illness and is left paraplegic in the film based on actual events. His mother buys him Gigi, a monkey, as a service animal a year after the tragic events. Nate and Gigi’s first encounter is interlaced with moments of their bonding, while the rest of the world looks on with disdain. When Gigi is ultimately taken away, the film looks new and hopeful with a touch of Nate’s courage.
In Gigi & Nate, Rocketman’s Charlie Rowe plays Nate, and Allie, a cute capuchin monkey, makes her acting debut as Gigi.
Marcia Gay Harden, Jim Belushi, Diane Ladd, Josephine Langford, Zoe Colletti, Hannah Riley, and Sasha Compère are among the cast members who also appear in the film. Director Nick Hamm (Driven) and Emmy-nominated screenwriter David Hudgins collaborate on this project, which they both directed and produced. As the filmmaker previously stated, “Gigi & Nate is a unique, stranger than fiction movie that exposes the truths we see every day, our willingness to sacrifice for our loved ones, and the emotional link between human and animal that alters our lives.” It has been bought by Roadside Attraction, a production firm that has released award-winning films such as Manchester by the Sea and The Peanut Butter Falcon and Judy. “It’s no secret that animals have wonderful things to teach us,” stated Co-Presidents Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff.
Resilience is something we all need right now and is why we’re so pleased to deliver this film to viewers,” Gigi explains. Tempo Productions’ Piers Tempest and René Besson are co-producing with Hamm. There are three executive producers: Axis Studios’ Nick Drew, Marie-Christine Jaeger-Firmenich, and Jon Hamm from Free Turn Films. Mary Ramos is the music supervisor, with original music composed by Paul Leonard-Morgan. Elliot Davis is the film’s cinematographer.
September 2 is the release date for Gigi & Nate
