Now that Obi-Wan Kenobi is finally out of the way, Disney+ has released fresh footage from Andor’s forthcoming series. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story: Andor takes place in the early days of the rebellion, providing viewers with a closer look into Cassian Andor’s renegade past (Diego Luna). New footage has surfaced in an ad commercial on Twitter that has been quietly making its way into the feeds of Star Wars fans since the soul-stirring teaser was revealed at the Star Wars Celebration in May. Cassian appears to be talking to someone about the Empire in the latest video, and he explains that “They’re overjoyed about their accomplishments. So stuffed and full of joy.” Interspersed with footage of Imperial leaders, the participants of the budding revolt pretend to grin and take risks in their efforts to overthrow the oppressive regime.
Also shown in the new footage are Stellan Skarsgard’s Luthen, Genevieve O’Reilly’s Mon Mothma, and many new characters portrayed by Adria Arjona, Kyle Soller, Denise Gough and Robert Emms. They are slated to add to the chaotic galaxy’s cast of people. On the “reckoning” of those who rise up against an oppressive regime, Shaw’s figure makes an appearance. This teaser does an excellent job of conveying that feeling for a series that looks to be about people rising up against their oppressors.
Rogue One will surely show viewers how Cassian went from a self-serving nihilist to the selfless martyr whose death helped the Rebellion win the galaxy, given the direction of Cassian’s character arc as his life comes to a sad yet heroic conclusion. Tony Gilroy, who replaced Stephen Schiff when the latter departed just before production began, is in charge of Andor. Beau Willimon and Dan Gilroy are among Gilroy’s numerous collaborators on the series, which he co-wrote with his brother.
Toby Haynes, Ben Caron, and Susanna White will helm the first season’s 12 episodes. It was revealed ahead of time that Andor will have a two-season run, with work on Season 2 beginning later this year and bringing the series’ total episode count to 24. For the first time, Andor will be available exclusively on Disney+ beginning August 31st.
