A new trailer for Darby and Joan, a new series slated to premiere on Acorn TV on August 8, 2022, has just been published by Acorn TV, so get a lamington ready and start the kettle. It’s an Australian road trip drama starring Bryan Brown and Greta Scacchi, in which retired Australian murder detective Jack Darby (Brown) and newly bereaved English nurse Joan Kirkhope (Scacchi) travel across Australia in the RV of Darby, who’s retired from the police force in Australia. They’re an eccentric couple, drawn together by accident. Unlike his coworkers, Darby prefers to relax with a few drinks and his trusty dog, Diesel.
There’s a difference in Joan’s demeanour between the two of them, though. However, as they travel through the outback, the two will become embroiled in a series of mysteries that will necessitate the use of their unique viewpoints. That which we may expect from the upcoming series is hinted at in this new teaser. With Darby’s casual outback attitude and Joan’s high-strung English perspective often clashing in humorous and charming ways, it exposes the constant squabbles between Darby and Joan Darby has the opportunity to introduce Joan to one of Australia’s most famous desserts, lamington.
A murder inquiry involves Darby, and Joan uncovers the operation of a weapon taking place right under her nose. For Joan’s next outback expedition, it looks like she’ll need a few more bottles of wine. Grey nomads, a phrase used to characterise an increasing number of retirees who are choosing to abandon their homes and travel the country, will be the focus of the show.
Exploring new and exciting places in their senior years Darby and Joan will investigate the phenomena, as well as the outback’s vastness and singular beauty. Claire Tonkin, David Hannam, Matt Campbell, Bea Tammer, and Catherine Mackin serve as executive producers of the show, which was shot on location in Queensland, Australia. Ainsley Clouston, Paul Bennett, Keith Thompson, Andrew Anastasios, Giula Sandler, David Hannam and Beck Cole are some of the writers that have contributed to the series. Until August 29, 2022, Darby and Joan will show its first two episodes on Acorn TV, with two additional episodes airing every Monday.
