Janhvi Kapoor stars in Good Luck Jerry, an upcoming Indian dark comedy featuring Janhvi Kapoor as a young woman, caught up in a drug smuggling organisation despite her placid demeanour. Deepak Dobriyal, Mita Vashisht, Neeraj Sood, and Sushant Singh also feature in the film. The trailer begins by stating that we’re in Punjab, a state in the north of India. called as “The Bread Basket of India” for its large-scale wheat production, the vast agrarian state is also a recognised hotbed of the illegal narcotics trade.
Udta Punjab, a criminal comedy from a few years ago, was in hot water with the local administration for depicting the state as a drug-abuse hotspot. Alia Bhatt, who also plays one of the film’s key protagonists, is from Bihar, an eastern Indian state. This film’s protagonist, Jerry, is likewise a “Bihari.” With no father, a terminally ill mother, and a small sister to care for, she finds herself in the heart of a completely strange culture. She decides to join a local drug gang and become a mule since she has nowhere else to go. Contraband is stuffed into momos, a dumpling-style street snack that originated in the adjacent countries of Tibet and Nepal, but is now famous in India and other Asian countries.
She’s able to get away with it for a while due of her low-key appearance, but she’s finally nabbed in a turf battle. Fish-out-of-water humour and Indian melodrama are combined with brutal criminality in the film’s unusual tone shown in the trailer. There is a hint that Jerry will turn the tables on those who have been in charge thus far. Wishing You the Best of Luck! Kapoor, the daughter of late actress Sridevi & producer Boney Kapoor, seems to find inspiration in Jerry. In the short time she’s been working, she’s established herself as a Netflix Gen Z star after appearing in the shows Ghost Stories and Gunjan Saxena:
The Kargil Girl. The Disney+ Hotstar production is her first for the network. This is Aanand L. Rai’s second collaboration with the streaming service, which is a Disney+ spinoff in Southeast Asia. His previous film, Atrangi Re, was released on Disney+ and Hotstar in the spring of 2018. Indian actor and director Ajay Devgan expressed his joy at working with the streaming service on such a “original” picture. As he put it himself:
Because of the complex moral difficulties and life’s obligations that surround an average man, we produced an original synergy in ‘Good Luck Jerry.’ Various components of the film will deliver a dose of humour and drama. I’m thrilled to be working with Disney+ Hotstar to deliver Jerry’s exciting and humorous narrative to viewers.”
Siddharth Sen’s Good Luck Jerry will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on July 29.
