Frank Grillo has been cast in the next high-octane picture, Black Lotus, according to Deadline, which broke the news earlier this month. The film, directed by Todor Chapkanov (Viking Quest), stars eleven-time world kickboxing champion, Rico Verhoeven, in a movie that promises to be full of one-liners and tremendous explosions. Among the other names on the cast list are Marie Dompnier (Black Box), Peter FranzĂ©n (Vikings), Rona-Lee Shim’on (Fauda), Magnus Samuelsson (The Last Kingdom), Simon Wan (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald), Kevin Janssens (Revenge), and Roland Mller (Rambo III) (Atomic Blonde).
Special forces officer Matteo Donner (Verhoeven) deals with the death of his best friend and closest confidant in Black Lotus, in which he is played by the actor. Donner is haunted by remorse over his friend’s death, which occurred on a mission the two were deployed on together. When Donner finds that his friend’s daughter has been stolen, the highly trained military officer is sent on a task that many consider a death mission. Donner makes the long journey back to Amsterdam in the hopes that he might save the young lady.
When he gets there, he’ll confront a never-ending bombardment of enemies that are out to get him there. Presently under production in the Netherlands is the Tad Daggerhart-written film. Having played butt-kicking roles in both the Captain America and Purge series, Grillo will be quite at home in the non-stop adrenaline adventure. In the DirecTV MMA thriller Kingdom, Grillo has shown he has what it takes to take on challenges in the ring. Among his many cinematic credits are Joe Carnahan’s Boss Level and Copshop, Hitman’s Wives Bodyguard, Zero Dark Thirty, My Soul to Take, and Minority Report.
Fans of the small screen will know him from his roles on Billions and The Shield in addition to his stint on Kingdom. For those who can’t wait for Black Lotus to come out, Grillo will soon be seen in Paradise Highway alongside Morgan Freeman and Juliette Binoche, as well as in Lamborghini, a biopic about the company’s founder, Ferruccio Lamborghini. On top of that, there’s also One Day as a Lion, MR-9, and Hounds of War, all of which he’s currently working on.
Black Lotus has yet to be given a release date.
