People have been called out on their improper behaviour, dubious beliefs, and outright falsehoods in the social media realm more times than they can count. For Zoey Deutch’s character, Danni, the internet calls her out on her dishonesty and threatens to destroy life as she knows it is Not Okay. We first saw a teaser trailer for the Hulu feature a few weeks ago, and now we’re getting a closer look at the film itself with this new poster. The story of Danni Sanders, a young lady who finds herself all alone in the world, is told in the documentary film Not Okay. While she aspires to be a writer, she’s also trying to make a reputation for herself on other social media platforms.
To get Instagram followers, Danni plans a phoney vacation to Paris using Photoshop, believing that this will help her become noticed. Danni, on the other hand, takes advantage of the fact that her “vacation” coincides with a horrendous terrorist attack by stating that she was at the epicentre of the carnage. Having survived the attacks, Danni now has a large following of people who are concerned about her mental and emotional well-being. Rowan (Mia Isaac) is a victim of a true trauma who finds recovery in helping others overcome their challenges through Rowan’s “experience.”
As a result of her newfound friendship with Danni (played by Dylan O’Brien), Danni begins to date Colin (also played by O’Brien). Unfortunately for Danni, once her fans learn the truth, they will turn on her and she will find herself in a precarious position. In the newest billboard, the aspiring influencer may be seen crying in a rainbow of colours. The colours of the French flag, which appears in the tale at times, are depicted on her lower lid: blue, white, and red.
Danni’s nail paint and two rings, which adorn her fingers, showcase the colour scheme once more. To us, it looks that the colours represent the film’s central theme, in which Danni obsesses over a catastrophe that occurs in Paris but to which she was not witness. Dark satire directed by Quinn Shephard receives support from Searchlight Pictures. The web of falsehoods surrounding Danni will come to light when Not Okay premieres on Hulu on July 29, 2022.
