It’s been revealed by Prime Video that the lighthearted comedy The Lake, based on the life of Julian Doucet, has been renewed for a second season on the streamer. Doucet also writes and produces the show. On June 17th, the first season of the programme premiered, and viewers were wondering if the show would be renewed for another season. This is good news, given the open-ended nature of season one and Amazon’s track record with renewals. Because it debuted at the same time as The Summer I Turned Pretty and The Boys, the show has developed a reputation as a surprise hit.
Despite this, the show has attracted fans despite its relative obscurity. Christina Wayne, the head of Amazon Studios’ Canadian Originals, confirmed the show’s renewal to Deadline, saying: Thank you for your support, and we can’t wait to bring you even more lakeside fun in Season Two!” —The cast of Lakeview Terrace in Season One. Having Amaze on board for our return to the cottage – plotting, backstabbing, blooming romance, chuckles… we can’t wait!” As previously said, the comedy sitcom is based on Doucet’s personal experiences and revolves around Justin (Jordan Gavaris) and his daughter Billie (Madison Shamoun). After a breakup with a long-term girlfriend, Justin is eager to reconcile with his biological daughter upon his return to the United States.
The fact that he had given her up for adoption when he was a teenager and the reunion’s location — Justin had picked a lake cottage from his boyhood, while Billie loved the city — both posed difficulties. It becomes more difficult for him when he discovers that his stepsister, “picture-perfect” Maisy-May (Julia Stiles), has taken over the family cottage. Karen Troubetzkoy and Doucet had worked together on KillJoys, where they wrote the script for The Lake. For Amaze, Michael Souther and Teza Lawrence will serve as the show’s executive producers.
When the series was first picked up by Prime Video, the creators commented about their inspiration for the show while praising the show’s diverse cast. ‘We were inspired by our lakeside summers, which is how we came up with the concept for Amazon,’ they said. We can’t wait to work with such a varied and brilliant ensemble, and we’re especially happy that Jordan will be playing a prominent part in the show’s celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community. As well to Jon Dore and Carolyn Scott and Natalie Lisinka and Travis Nelson and Declan Whaley, the other cast members include Terry Chen and Terry Chen. Amazon Prime Video now has Season 1, but no release date has been set for Season 2.
