Kristen Stewart, who was nominated for an Academy Award for her work in the film industry, has started filming her ghost-hunting show. Variety says that Stewart is looking for a cast of LGBT ghost hunters and mediums to audition. CJ Romero, a self-described ‘ghost-hunting Hairstylist,’ has issued open calls on her Instagram account, inviting anybody who is interested to apply. Television shows on ghost hunting will never go out of trend as long as people are fascinated by the paranormal. There’s always a place for ghosts on television, whether it’s Syfy’s Ghost Hunters or BuzzFeed Unsolved, which is now Watcher.
For Stewart, the goal is to produce “the most gayess, funniest, most titillating queer ghost-hunting programme ever,” fusing the macabre with the inclusive (can Queer be termed a genre?). Queer creators are attempting to go from the fringe to the mainstream in an effort to increase visibility for the LGBTQ+ community. Drag has been popularised by shows like RuPaul’s Drag Race and Queer Eye, which show how dress and home design can express a person’s true self. This month, Trixie Mattel’s programme Trixie Motel premiered on Discovery+, exposing the community to a new set of viewers. Stewart’s desire for “a spooky adventure in a queer environment” is only logical, and she’s asking for help from her fans to make it a reality.
On Instagram, Stewart wrote:
With Scout, the producers of ‘Queer Eye,’ ‘Legendary, and ‘The Hype,” I am thrilled to announce that I will be working with them on the most titillating, funniest, and sexiest gay ghost-hunting programme ever. Our team needs the best LGBTQ+ ghost hunters, paranormal specialists, mediums, psychics, and researchers who can lead the gang on this crazy queer ghost-hunting excursion. Most recently, Stewart was seen in David Cronenberg’s return to the world of body horror in the film Crimes of the Future. Last year, Stewart was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance as Princess Diana Spencer in the biopic Spencer, which gave her the opportunity to showcase a broader variety of acting abilities.
American Ultra, another biographical drama, Seberg, the life story of Jean Seberg, Clouds of Sils Maria, and Personal Shopper round out the list of notable films. Rose Glass, the director of Saint Maud, has cast her in a romantic thriller called Love Lies Bleeding. Stewart, a member of the LGBTQ+ community, originally came up with the idea for her ghost-hunting endeavour in the fall of 2013. Stewart will executive produce an unnamed spooky programme alongside Scout, Queer Eye’s Scout, and will be “aiming for a richness.” There’s no word yet on who will be on the show or what kinds of haunts will be featured in the episodes.
