The Nan, Catherine Tate’s character in the short-lived but highly popular sketch comedy series The Catherine Tate Show, is a no-BS woman who speaks her mind and can get fairly confrontational when faced, which makes for hilarious situations. In order to reestablish contact with her sister Nell (played by her grandson Matthew Horne), Nan Joins on a road trip with her grandson Jamie (played by Matthew Horne) (Katherine Parkinson). On the route from London to Dublin, the trailer for The Nan Movie suggests that a lot may (and will) happen. The best part appears to be that we’ll get to witness Nan in full-on party mode, with nightclubs, tequila body shots, and even rapping! Meanwhile, their final destination may be a sad one: Nan is being forced to reconcile with her sister because an estranged cousin is terminally ill. However, we all know that at least a part of Nan feels more than fury at this.
Another thing the video reveals is that Nan and Jamie’s road trip will get very crazy, with explosions and vehicles driving off piers and police officers being insulted, as well as Nan joking with a whole rugby team – she’s an elderly lady, after all. Tate and Brett Goldstein, who wrote and starred in the critically acclaimed and hugely successful Apple TV+ comedy Ted Lasso, collaborated on The Nan Movie. As well as the 2014 TV movie featuring The Nan, Goldstein also authored two of the four TV specials based on The Nan. Additionally, Parker Sawyers, Tom Vaughn-Lawlor, Jack Doolan, and Niky Wardley (from Southside With You and Peaky Blinders, respectively) appear in the comedy (The Catherine Tate Show).
On the 22nd of July, The Nan Movie will be released in cinemas and on demand.
