Diane Lane, who was nominated for an Oscar for her role in The Help, has joined the cast of the Netflix series A Man in Full as the second lead. Producers David E. Kelley and Regina King have cast Lane in the series, which is based on Tom Wolfe’s 1998 novel of a same name and will star Jeff Daniels. As Charlie Crocker, a real estate tycoon and part of Atlanta’s elite social circle, Daniels plays someone whose economic empire and social standing are on the line when he declares bankruptcy in A Man in Full. In this role, Lane will be playing Charlie Crocker’s ex-wife Martha Crocker.
The downfall of Charlie’s firm forces Martha to defend her own clout in the city, putting her in jeopardy of exposing Charlie’s long-kept secrets. Lane has been nominated for an Academy Award for her role in the 2002 picture Unfaithful. The Outsiders, Under the Tuscan Sun, and the Henry Cavil Superman movie are among her most well-known credits, as is her portrayal of Martha Kent. Lane most recently appeared in Y: The Last Man on FX and House of Cards’ last season on Netflix.
Along with Meryl Streep, Tobey Maguire, and Forest Whitaker, she’ll next be featured in the Apple TV+ series Extrapolations. In addition to being executive producer and showrunner, Kelley has written all six episodes of A Man in Full. As a television star, Kelley has a long and varied career ahead of her. Nine Perfect Strangers, Big Little Lies, and The Undoing are just a few of his recent hits. Ally McBeal, Doogie Howser, M.D. and Chicago Hope were all developed by him. Additionally, she will act as an executive producer for three episodes of the show through her production business, Royal Ties.
King has won an Academy Award for her roles in Ray, If Beale Street Could Talk, & The Harder They Fall, and even television shows including The Leftovers and Watchmen. She’s recently started getting recognition for her work as a director as well. It was in the critically praised One Night in Miami that she made her feature film directorial debut after directing episodes of popular television shows such as This is Us, Shameless, and Insecure. Leslie Odom Jr. was nominated for an Academy Award as a result of King’s work on the picture.
