Alison Brie and Aubrey Plaza, two comedy staples, star in Jeff Baena’s new film Spin Me Round, which will be released on August 19th. Spinning Me Round, from the Duplass Brothers, is about an Italian restaurant chain manager who receives a once-in-a-lifetime chance to take part in the franchise’s educational immersion programme. A romantic retreat in Italy quickly turns into a disaster as the players are caught up in the web of intrigue and adventure that develops while they’re on their seemingly idyllic work trip.
Amber (Brie) is shown in the two-minute clip looking for love in Italy. The CEO Nick Martucci (Alessandro Nivola), a sexy Kat and his assistant greet her as she arrives at the company (Plaza). As Kat takes Amber on a wild journey through Italy, she is seen carrying a 1996 book, News of a kidnapping. The ladies Baena worked with within the current comedy picture were not her first time working with her. In his 2014 comedy-horror Life After Beth, Plaza starred as Zach’s (Dane DeHaan) long-dead girlfriend, Beth, who returned from the grave after Zach’s death. The Little Hours, a mediaeval black comedy-drama about a group of nuns in a convent set in the 14th century, saw Baena pair again with Brie and Plaza in 2017.
It was Jeff Baena’s decision to put Plaza and Brie back together for Spin Me Round, a fresh crazy adventure. At the SXSW Film Festival, it had its world debut. A stellar cast of indie comedians, including Debby Ryan (Insatiable), Molly Shannon (The Little Hours), Zach Woods (The Office), Ayden Mayeri (The Afterparty), Lil Rey Howery (Free Guy), Ben Sinclair (High Maintenance), Tim Heidecker (Tim and Eric Awesome Show), and Fred Armisen, round out the ensemble (Portlandia).
Brie and Baena also collaborated on the song “Spin Me Round.” She has previously stated that she admires the director’s ability to present a tale in a distinctive way. cooperating with him, Brie said, “I can think of no better setting to explore the beauty and complexity of the human experience than in the gorgeous Italian countryside.” The next comedy will be released in theatres, on VOD, and on AMC+ on August 19th as part of a hybrid distribution strategy. Although we’ve already witnessed Plaza and Brie’s extensive connection, the teaser made it clear.
