HBO Max’s new political drama series The Girls on the Bus will include Christina Elmore (Insecure), according to Deadline. Kimberlyn Kendrick, a Reagan Republican with an Ivy League education and a campaign reporter for Liberty News, will be played by Elmore. She joins Melissa Benoist and Natasha Behnam, who was previously revealed for the role. “Boys on the Bus” journalist Sadie McCarthy (Benoist) is on a mission to cover a presidential election after being inspired by Crouse’s novel. During the campaign trail, Sadie develops a close friendship with Grace, Lola (Behnam), and Kimberlyn, all of whom are female candidates (Elmore).
It’s been said that “these women form a found family with an unobstructed view of the greatest soap opera in town: the struggle for the White House.” Amy Chozick’s 2018 book, Chasing Hillary: Ten Years, Two Presidential Campaigns, and One Intact Glass Ceiling served as inspiration for the show, which is characterised as a “comedic character-driven drama.” As a political writer covering both Hillary Clinton’s 2008 and 2016 presidential campaigns, Chozick spent a decade on the New York Times Bestseller list. Chozick and Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries, Legacies) created The Girls on the Bus, which was unveiled earlier this year and will be executive produced by Rina Mimoun and Chozick.
The show will be executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden, all of Berlanti Productions. The twenties and The Last Ship are two of Elmore’s most recent projects. Mayan M.C. and American Pie Present: Girls’ Rules, the fifth edition in the American Pie Presents film series, were Behnam’s most recent roles. Previously, Benoist portrayed Kara Danvers (Supergirl) on The CW’s Supergirl, which aired for six seasons until being cancelled last year. As part of her overall agreement with Warner Bros. Television, she will also produce the show. The Girls on the Bus have come a long way. Netflix had originally planned to order it in 2019 but ultimately decided against it. Set up at CW before being picked up for series by HBO Max. A release date hasn’t been given at this time.
