You can see how the marriage of convenience between Cassie and Luke begins to take shape in the new Purple Hearts trailer, which was published by Netflix. The film explores the long-term effects on both the lives of a poor singer-decision songwriter to marry a third-generation marine after being overwhelmed by medical debt. The film, based on Tess Wakefield’s novel of the same name, premieres on Netflix on July 29. The trailer begins with a couple who appear to be in love. Writing to each other while Luke is serving his country has allowed Cassie and Luke to converse openly about themselves. It’s a scheme to divide some insurance money after all that lovey-dovey setup, but the rug gets ripped out from under us. In order to avoid the attention of the military, it is not enough to just like each other.
Even if they aren’t really in love, the acting seems to build an actual bond between the two. When Luke is injured in an explosion, Cassie and Luke’s world are devastated. Cassie is there for Luke as he recovers from his injuries in a wheelchair, so he can rely on her for support. Because Cassie didn’t think she’d be living with Luke, it’s difficult. Even though they must wait for Luke’s return, the shared experience binds them together rather than severing the bonds of friendship. In the background, the song “Come Back Home” by Carson plays. At this point, the song reaches its apex as Cassie and Luke have their first true kiss, hinting at the emotional rollercoaster that is to come.
Additionally, the picture features Chosen Jacobs, Kat Cunning, Linden Ashby, Anthony Ippolito… Sarah Rich and Scott Deckert in addition to Carson and Galitzine. As well as being the leader of the picture, Carson is also an executive producer and a member of the music team. The screenplay was written by Kyle Jarrow and Liz Garcia and directed by Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum, whose recent credits include Sneakerella and Dead to Me. In addition to Paul O. Davis, Amy Baer, Laura Char Carson, Hugo Grumbar and Tim Haslam serving as executive producers are Leslie Morgenstein and Elysa Dutton.
On July 29, Netflix will premiere Purple Hearts.
