Seeing that Better Call Saul’s last season begins tonight on AMC with its second half of the sixth and final season, the final batch of promos is being unveiled in time for those who have been eagerly anticipating its conclusion since its premiere in 2009. A fictional box set including all of Saul Goodman’s (Bob Odenkirk’s) biggest scams and a much more basic series recap have both been issued in anticipation of the show’s upcoming return, and both take us through some of the most crucial and memorable moments from the first season.
Gene Takavic, the pseudonym Goodman adopts in his post-Breaking Bad existence, is the subject of the first promotional video.
Similar to the first episode of the series, in which Gene was rewatching old Saul Goodman commercials, the promo is set in the context of Gene watching an old commercial for a box set of 12 VHS tapes chronicling and teaching some of Jimmy McGill’s/Saul Goodman’s best and most effective scams and schemes. For example, there was the bogus Rolex fraud with his pal Marco (Mel Rodriguez) in Cicero, Illinois, getting fired from Davis & Main, scamming stockbrokers, manufacturing evidence… you know, the typical! Saul is generous enough to throw you an additional “Top Ten Places to Hide Your Scam Plan” for those who purchase this imaginary box set now! The TV is turned off at the end of the promo, leaving just Gene’s reflection in the dark.
With a more serious tone, the first advertisement teases the upcoming finale of the final season, while the second, a more sombre teaser, gives a review for those who wish to brush up on what has happened thus far. Five seasons are condensed into less than a minute in this summary. From Jimmy McGill’s (Giancarlo Esposito) tumultuous connection with his brother Chuck (Michael McKean) to Gus Fring (Jonathan Banks), Mike Ehrmantraut (Giancarlo Esposito), and the Salamanca family, to Gene Takavic’s (Jonathan Banks) recognition in Omaha, Nebraska, this story has it all.
Although the recap gives a general idea of the plot, key developments, such as the fates of certain characters, are kept under wraps in case someone who hasn’t seen the show before happens to stumble into the video. Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan, as well as Mark Johnson, Melissa Bernstein, Thomas Schnauz, Gordon Smith, Alison Tatlock, Diane Mercer, and Michael Morris, are all executive producers on the series. Rhea Seehorn, Patrick Fabian, Michael Mando, and Tony Dalton join Odenkirk, Banks, and Esposito in the series’ all-star cast. As previously reported, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, who played Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, will return for one last season on AMC’s Breaking Bad. Sony Pictures Television produces the series. Beginning on July 11, AMC will air the second half of the final season of Better Call Saul.
