The planned movie version of Stephen King’s novel Salem’s Lot, which was supposed to make its debut in theatres in September but has been pushed back by many months, will now not be released until later this year. The terrifying movie will now have its world debut early in the spring of the next year, and its new release date has been scheduled for April 21, 2023. Following a popular television film version from the 1970s that was directed by Tobe Hooper and an adaptation that starred Rob Lowe, Salem’s Lot is yet another cinematic adaptation of King’s renowned vampire novel. Gary Dauberman wrote the screenplay for the film and also directed it.
According to Deadline, the decision to delay the premiere of the film is the consequence of issues in post-production due to the use of Covid. The movie is scheduled to be the first adaptation of the novel to be shown in theatres. The film is only one of several adaptations of King’s works that are now in production. Versions of Christine and other books are also being adapted for the screen. Ben Mears, the protagonist of King’s novel that was released in 1975, is an author who is experiencing writer’s block and is looking for inspiration for his next novel.
He decides to travel back to his hometown, which is eerily named Jerusalem’s Lot, in the hopes of finding it, particularly in the form of an abandoned mansion that is owned by a mysterious European man. After conducting further research, Mears comes to the conclusion that there is a malevolent force in the area that is transforming the locals into nocturnal monsters, specifically vampires. After that, he assembles a reliable band of citizens into a small group, and the group sets out to rid their community of the vampire scourge that has been tormenting it.
The director Gary Dauberman is a favourite of New Line Cinema, having worked on a variety of projects for the company in the past, some of which include both of the It films as well as The Nun, amongst other things. Lewis Pullman, who appeared in featured roles in Bad Times at the El Royale and Top Gun: Maverick, will play the lead role of Ben Mears in the film. Games of Thrones’ Pilou Asbaek will play the role of Richard Straker, who is getting ready for the arrival of his master, a vampire named Kurt Barlow. The cast of the film is also expected to impress.
In addition to Alfre Woodard in the role of Dr Cody, the star-studded cast also includes Spencer Treat Clark, Makenzie Leigh, Bill Camp, and Bill Camp. James Wan, a legendary figure in the horror genre, is the film’s producer; Roy Lee and Mark Wolper are also producers. It has been decided that Dauberman will both compose the script and executive produce the movie. The new release date for Salem’s Lot is set for the 21st of April in 2023.
