`In a teaser for the return of HBO Max’s Harley Quinn, everyone’s favourite misfit family is back. The animated adult comedy is back for a third season, and it promises to deliver even more stomach punches, both painful and hilarious. Harley (Kaley Cuoco) and Poison Ivy’s (Lake Bell) romance has been hanging in front of our eyes for the past two seasons, but the trailer finally delivers on what we’ve all been waiting for. Once again, we’ll be reunited with Clayface (Alan Tudyk), King Shark (Ron Funches), Frank the Plant (J.B. Smoove), and Bane as the lovely pair returns to Gotham City (James Adomian).
There are various plotlines that are revealed in the teaser, including Ivy’s plan to terraform Gotham, which would result in the extinction of humanity and the rise of plants, and Joker’s (Tudyk) attempt to become the city’s mayor. Despite this, it appears that Harley has had a change of heart. Diedrich Bader will reprise his role as Batman, Chris Meloni will reprise his role as Commissioner Gordon, Sanaa Lathan will reprise her role as Catwoman, Briana Cuoco will reprise her role as Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl, and Harvey GuillĂ©n will reprise his role as Nightwing in the third season of the hit show.
This season, filmmaker James Gunn will go into the animated universe of DC Comics. There is also a great chance that Amanda Waller and The Court of Owls may make an appearance or multiple appearances. Overall, we have a good feeling about Harley Quinn: The Animated Series because of the quality of the script and the stunning visuals we can expect. Harley and Ivy start out as merely friends while Harley attempts time and time again to escape her poisonous connection with the Joker.
The show has also delivered on its gay plot arcs (so far). This season, we’ve seen them grow closer as friends and as lovers, constantly looking out for each other’s best interests. It was wonderful to see the production move forward with the romance tale between the two instead of holding it in front of us or going on an entirely different path. Whether or not it keeps up in season three remains to be seen, but for now, Harley and Ivy are a promising young couple. The first two episodes of Season 3 will be shown during a special screening at San Diego Comic-Con. Season 3 of Harley Quinn will premiere on HBO Max on July 28th, and the rest of us will have to wait.
