Scream Factory is releasing a special collector’s edition of Cat People on Blu-ray to mark the film’s 40th anniversary. For the celebration of the cult classic, a remake of the 1942 horror/noir movie of the same name, the 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray releases contain a new 4K scan from the original camera negative and unique bonus content. We follow the story of Irena Gallier, a woman who reunites with her estranged brother Paul and learns an old family mystery that resurfaces. Even though her brother makes overtures to her, she is drawn to biologist Oliver Yates while living with her brother.
However, it is only a matter of time before the dark and terrifying Gallier family curse makes an appearance. Paul Schrader and Alan Ormsby co-wrote the script for the film, which was directed by Schrader. Irena Gallier (Nastassja Kinski), Paul Gallier (Malcolm McDowell), Oliver Yates (John Heard), Alice Perrin (Annette O’Toole), and Detective Brandt (Frankie Faison) are all featured in Cat People. David Bowie notably composed the film’s theme song, “Cat People (Putting Out Fire),” which was included on his best-selling and most iconic album, Let’s Dance.
Also included is a rare interview with composer Giorgio Moroder, entitled “Composing a Cult Classic,” as well as an audio commentary by Schrader and additional interviews with Kinski, O’Toole, and John Heard. A look at the film’s matte paintings, a theatrical trailer, and a TV ad round out the extras, which also include images from the set, production art, and posters that come packaged with the disc.
