Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi recently confirmed if the “director’s cut” version of the film will be released after the film has finished playing in theatres. Waititi’s reaction to the subject of whether or not a director’s cut is a frequent tendency was simple: “It is,” he said. In an interview with NME, he declared, “Director’s edits are not good.” “Director’s edits have been on my mind. The director’s cut of a lot of films is something I’m familiar with. They were a complete waste of time. The director’s edits are bad. If I were to say, “Ah, you want to watch my director’s cut?” then I’d have to contain myself. How long does it take to watch it?’ At four & a half hours, it’s not good. You don’t even need to pause the video to take a cup of tea.”
He went on to explain that there were various sequences and elements that were cut from the final picture because they didn’t fit. There may be a few deleted sequences, but as I usually say, a scene gets cut because it’s not good enough to be in the film,” he remarked. There should be no links in the “Deleted Scenes” section of the DVD since “I don’t think they utilise them anymore!” It was revealed in our conversation with Chris Hemsworth and director Taika Waititi that the two talked about the film’s deleted sequences and how some of them were cut even though they were excellent. How long did it take? ”
It was around four hours.” “Waititi made the comment. “So much time spent in the studios… Like when you’re in the middle of it all and you’re thinking, “This is the finest thing anyone has ever filmed.” I still kind of enjoy it when I go to the edit. While it was wonderful to see on the day, six months later, you come to understand that it doesn’t belong in the movie. Really, after about five attempts, it simply gives up and tells jokes for about ten to fifteen minutes… As a film, it’s more of an assemblage.
When asked if he had ever seen a four-hour version of a movie that was “Batshit insane,” Chris Hemsworth said, “I haven’t.” About four and a half hours. It was like something out of Monty Python… I don’t think it’s a movie… “The tale was sacrificed in order to make light of the situation.” Though the director’s cut won’t be out for some time, there may be a chance to view how the film might have looked with some of the deleted sequences. Thor: Love and Thunder is now showing in cinemas.
