On Sunday, July 3, during the Anime Expo in Los Angeles, Crunchyroll announced that Solo Leveling, a Korean online book, will be turned into an anime. Comics written by Chugong and drawn by Redice Studio’s DUBU are huge hits in South Korea, and Yen Press is adapting them for the American market. Until further notice, the following is all that we now know about the upcoming anime.
“Solo Leveling” is a popular anime about what?
During an industry event at Anime Expo on Sunday, July 3, Crunchyroll discussed the upcoming anime Solo Leveling. According to the streaming site, A-1 Pictures will produce the anime adaptation, which will be available on their platform outside of Asia. A young man named Sung Jinwoo is the protagonist of Solo Leveling, which depicts his adventures in a world where magically gifted people, referred to as hunters, battle monsters and conquer dungeons in order to save humanity’s existence. Soon after a near-fatal encounter, Jinwoo is selected by software known as “the System,” giving him the ability to level up exponentially with no known limit and leading him on a mission to explore the extent of his new abilities.
When Can We Expect an Episode of ‘Solo Leveling’ to Air?
There is currently no official release date, although it is expected to be available sometime in 2023. It was during Anime Expo that Crunchyroll published a teaser trailer for the anime, which gave a small preview of the adaptation.
Who Will Create the Anime ‘Solo Leveling’?
Shunsuke Nakashige will direct this anime, with Noboru Kimura serving as the show’s chief writer and Tomoko Sudo designing the show’s characters. For the show’s soundtrack, Hiroyuki Sawano (who wrote music for Attack on Titan, The Seven Deadly Sins, and Blue Exorcist) will be involved. A cast announcement is yet to be made, but it’s safe to assume it will be made in the near future, either for the Japanese simulcast or a prospective English dub.
What Do the Anime’s Creators Think of the Show?
Solo Leveling designers Chugong and DUBU made their feelings known in a press release, saying that they were pleased with the anime version of the game. If someone had told me six years ago that Solo Leveling would become a comic, I guess I’d have told them to quit pulling my leg. I’m sure I’d have laughed at them. Now I’m hearing that it’s going to have animation? Stop joking around with me!
In contrast, I’m feeling elated and euphoric these days. Seeing Jinwoo and the other characters animated soon will help me feel more certain about this, as I’m still a little sceptical about it all. That day is coming, and I’m going to work hard to get there.”
According to DUBU, “Solo Leveling has finally made its anime debut. It seems like just several days ago when we received an offer to adapt the anime. When I think about the fact that the anime is being made right now, I am completely overwhelmed. You Solo Leveling supporters are the reason Solo Leveling has been able to grow and thrive.
