With Love and Thunder, Thor becomes the first of the original Avengers to reach this milestone with his solo film. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and his role in the Nine Realms are once again explored by Taika Waititi, who brings his own sense of comedy and sensibility to the project. After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Thor reunites with his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and the two band up to take on Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher. The movie concludes with Thor settling into his new role as a father, but many uncertainties remain for the viewer long after the final credits have rolled. Thankfully, a brief tease following the post-credits sequence lets us know that Thor will return in the future. After Thor: Love and Thunder, we have a few burning questions we’d like to know the answer to.
To What Destination Will They Travel Next?
While he was on the Milano with the Guardians of the Galaxy in Avengers: Endgame, Thor went through an incredible transformation from a father figure to a god figure. After a while, the Guardians had had enough of Thor’s one-man show. They consider it a great chance to break up with Thor when he receives a crisis call from Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander). As soon as Thor gets a pep talk from Peter Quill, he and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy–Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket and Groot (voiced by Bradley Cooper, Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Nebula (Karen Gillan), and Kraglin (Sean Gunn)–take off with the rest of the Guardians. For all intents and purposes, has their storyline officially begun with Vol. 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the film’s post-credits sequences do not feature them at all? It’s been a long time since they’ve seen Gamora (Zoe Saldana). The good news is that we won’t have to wait more than a year to find out!
It remains to be seen if Valkyrie will find her future queen.
For as long as he has been alive, Thor has experienced love by rearing Gorr’s daughter, who was adopted by Jane Foster before her death from cancer (India Hemsworth). Meanwhile, Dwayne, a fellow Kronan, falls in love with Korg (Taika Waititi). The monarch of New Asgard is the only surviving member of the Revengers from Thor: Ragnarok who has not found love. In spite of Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) flirting with a Zeus lady while stealing Thunderbolt, Korg points out to her later that she is hesitant to open up to love after losing her girlfriend and other Valkyries in their battle with Hela (Cate Blanchett). Valkyrie may have the confidence to open her heart to new love after watching Thor lose the love of his life and move on.
What was the final catchphrase of the Mighty Thor?
It takes Mjölnir to turn Jane into the Mighty Thor. She is in need of a catchphrase as a new hero. No catchphrases remain with her throughout the movie; this might have been a tribute to Waititi’s character in Free Guy, where the only catchphrase Antwan could conjure up for Dude (Ryan Reynolds) is “Catchphrase.” This is the closest she gets to a cry of “Eat my hammer!” during her fight with Gorr in the Shadow Realm. Her final words to Thor as she lay dying: “I’ve found my catchphrase,” she whispers to him. Her final catchphrase is kept a secret from the audience. Is it possible that Thor may use it as a rallying cry in a future battle? Even so, the fact that he has returned to utilising Mjölnir in honour of the Mighty Thor helps.
Do You Think Jane and Heimdall Will Reappear?
After the credits roll, we see Jane arriving at Valhalla, the afterlife of the Norse gods. Heimdall (Idris Elba) greets her and praises her for safeguarding his son, Axl, as she enters the chamber (Kieron L. Dyer). As a result of their honourable death in combat, they have been granted eternal life in paradise, but may they ever be called upon to fight again? In Moon Knight, we saw Marc Spector (Oscar Isaac) return from the Field of Reeds to the realm of the living. Who’s to say that we won’t see these heroes of Asgard again when the portal was previously opened?
Are the Afterlife Realms of the MCU intertwined?
Valhalla, the Duat, and Ancestral Plains in Black Panther are three separate afterlife places that have been presented to MCU fans in Black Panther. According to Taweret (Antonia Salib), the Egyptian goddess of women and children, there are numerous intersecting levels of unbound awareness. Deities from all across the world gather at Omnipotence City to arrange their next orgy, and Thor and his crew spend some time there in Love and Thunder. Such luxuries could only be hoped for by people in their various paradises in the hereafter. In the afterlife, is there a method to communicate with individuals who have already passed?
In Omnipotence City, Where Were the Other MCU Gods?
All the gods and goddesses from the MCU’s various kingdoms and universes congregate at Omnipotence City. Zeus (Russell Crowe) is the ruler of Wakanda, but there is also a brief reference to the god of woodworking (Jesus, is that you?). The Egyptian gods of Moon Knight reside in a separate realm than Earth, therefore why weren’t they visible in Omnipotence City if we already know that they do? It’s not hard to think that they enjoy a night out on the town.
There has been a lot of talk about Ares’ inclusion in the MCU recently.
The Greek pantheon of gods has firmly established itself in the MCU with the entrance of Zeus in Thor: Love and Thunder and Hercules in the post-credits sequence. Would it be possible for Ares and me to meet up again in the near future? Ares, the god of war, has long been a foe of the Avengers in the comics; in fact, Hercules’ joining up with the Avengers was sparked by Ares stirring battles between Olympus and Earth. This plot arc might be used to bring in Ares as a suitable opponent if Hercules joins Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
