Is there a Thor 5 in the works? Now that Thor: Love and Thunder have here, everyone’s asking this question. Although nothing has been announced, a fivequel appears to be a foregone conclusion. Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Taika Waititi, and Natalie Portman reprise their roles in the forthcoming Thor: Ragnarok, with Natalie Portman taking on the character of Jane Foster, who is now the Mighty Thor. Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher, who is out to wipe off the gods of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, stands in their way. Here, we examine the likelihood of a Thor 5, the release date, the plot, and which cast members may return for a fifth outing. As a heads-up, there are spoilers for Love and Thunder in the following sections. Take a step back if you haven’t already seen the movie! Is anyone still here? In the next section, we’ll go into detail regarding a possible fifth appearance by the Thunder God…
Is a Thor 5 in the works?
Nothing has been verified as of yet. Thor: Love and Thunder post-credits sequences definitely set up more possible tales, as does wording at the film’s conclusion that hints “Thor will return” (more on that in a moment). As a result, it’s reasonable to infer that there will be a Thor solo movie in the future.
What is the release date of Thor 5?
In the absence of any release dates beyond Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the release date of Thor 5 is unknown. Although the wait might have been shorter if the pandemic hadn’t occurred, Thor: Ragnarok and Love and Thunder will be 5 years apart. The fourth film was initially scheduled for release in November 2021. In light of the fact that Marvel has announced release dates for its films until 2023, we may assume that a Thor 5 will arrive at the earliest in 2024, but it is highly likely that it will arrive much later. Because it hasn’t even been announced, the wait will likely begin in 2025.
When will Thor 5 be released?
Thor and his adoptive daughter Love, represented by Chris Hemsworth’s real-life daughter India Hemsworth, are shown in the last scene of Love and Thunder slinging hammers at an alien horde. We may presume that both characters will return for a fifth instalment based on this. After her return to the MCU, we’re expecting to see Jamie Alexander return as Sif, as well as Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Taika Waititi as Korg. Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, also known as the Mighty Thor, is the most intriguing character.
It is shown in the last post-credits sequence that Jane, an astrophysicist turned superhero, has made it to Valhalla, the Viking afterlife, despite her tragic death in the movie. There, she meets Idris Elba’s Heimdall, thus we may expect to see both characters return in Thor 5 if the gates of Valhalla open. Russell Crowe as Zeus and Brett Goldstein as Hercules round out the cast. During the first post-credits sequence, Zeus implores his son Hercules to re-establish mortal awe of the gods. If Goldstein does play the adversary in Thor 5, we can safely infer that Russell Crowe will return as Zeus.
Here’s a look at the possible plotlines for Thor 5:
Thor and Gorr’s daughter, Love, join forces at the conclusion of Love and Thunder to guard the cosmos. Thor is reunited with Mjolnir, while Love wields Stormbreaker. Before Gorr died, Thor promised to look over Love, and he is keeping his word as “Uncle Thor.” Thor’s new status as Love’s protector is clearly evident in a follow-up. Thor’s introduction of Hercules makes it plain that things aren’t going to be easy for him. Hercules has been tasked by Zeus to restore mortal fear of and reverence for the gods, therefore if he is tormenting the world, Thor and Love will undoubtedly step in to save the day. Hercules and the Thunder God are likely to face off in the comics, as the two are typically adversaries.
However, the two have also worked together on several occasions, so it’s unlikely that Hercules will remain a villain for long. Then there’s the Valhalla revelation to take into account. In Avengers: Infinity War, Heimdall was killed, but in Love and Thunder, he welcomes Jane Foster into the Viking afterlife. We’ll have to wait & see whether either character returns in Thor 5, but they’re certainly not done in the MCU and would be deserving partners in a fight against Zeus and Hercules.
Is Taika Waititi in the running to direct the next Thor movie?
Even if a fifth film isn’t planned, there’s no reason to think Waititi would step down as director. Since Waititi and Thor have worked so well together in the past, we may expect him to return to direct another movie.
