Tilman Singer’s next horror film, Cuckoo, has just finished production. He previously wrote and directed Luz. NEON has also given a first look at the film, which promises a scary scenario, now that filming is complete. The next horror film’s narrative is being kept under wraps until it is finished filming in Germany on 35mm film. Neon has released a teaser trailer for Schafer’s cinematic debut, which is still in post-production. It shows Schafer’s character hiding from a masked assailant while wearing a bandage on her head to protect herself.
While it’s not clear who or what she’s hiding from, the image promises a chilling experience for lovers of the genre when the film premieres sometime in the near future. This will be Hunter Schafer’s first feature-length film role after her critically acclaimed turn in Euphoria. Jessica Henwick (The Matrix Resurrections), Marton Csókás (The Equalizer), and Greta Fernández (A Thief’s Daughter) all join the cast of the film. Jan Bluthardt, who previously worked with Singer on Luz, will star in the film. Paul Faltz serves as a cinematographer while Dario Mendez Acosta serves as the production designer for the film.
Simon Waskow will compose the film’s score, while Henning Hein will return to serve as the project’s sound designer. Actors Sofia Boutella and Gemma Chan were earlier said to have joined the cast, but it now appears that they haven’t. Schafer will appear in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, a prequel to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which will be released on November 17, 2023, with Cuckoo. In addition to writing and directing an episode of Euphoria, which she also stars in, Schafer has also written and co-produced an episode of the show.
Once it opens in 2023 under the direction of an up-and-coming writer/director from an established studio and with the burgeoning talents of Schafer on the cast, Cuckoo is building up to be a picture that horror fans should keep an eye out for. NEON’s Tom Quinn, Jeff Deutchman, Emily Thomas and Ryan Friscia serve as executive producers on Singer’s Cuckoo. To name a few of the film’s producers, FICTION PARK and Waypoint Entertainment teamed up with Markus Halberschmidt of FICTION PARK and Josh Rosenbaum of Waypoint Entertainment to bring the project to life.
The release date for Cuckoo is still up in the air.
