HBO has decided to kill Gentleman Jack after two seasons, despite the show’s strong and loyal fan base. The Sally Wainwright series, which had just finished its second and last season, has come to an end. The third season of this co-production between HBO and the BBC has been cancelled, according to Deadline. Just one month has passed since the conclusion of Season 2. Anne Lister, portrayed by Suranne Jones, was an industrialist and landowner who was followed by Gentleman Jack. This period piece, set in 19th-century Yorkshire, is based on Anne’s secret journals, which document her encounters with other women.
Because of her diaries, Anne Lister has been dubbed the “first modern lesbian,” and Sophie Rundle plays her love interest, Ann Walker, in this series. As she sought to live life on her own terms, Anne was depicted in the series as she confronted difficulties. After a determined Lister tried to rescue her family’s reputation and company in the first episode of the series that aired in April 2019, she wasn’t willing to do what society expected. The first season of the show examined how the charming woman handled her connections with those around her as she navigated society.
Season 2 follows Anne and Ann as they choose to move into Shibden Hall as a pair and go through some trying times as a couple. The second season, which lasted eight episodes, concluded in June. Due to the difficulties caused by the epidemic, the premiere of Gentleman Jack’s second season was delayed by three years. Wainwright, Jones, Faith Penhale, Will Johnston, and Ben Irving serve as executive producers for Gentleman Jack. Joe Armstrong and Timothy West also starred in the show.
Director Edward Hall, producer Stella Merz, and actors Amanda Brotchie and Fergus O’Brien collaborate on the film, which is produced by the duo.
HBO has issued the following statement on the show’s cancellation:
The third season of HBO’s Gentleman Jack is not in the works. It’s been a joy to watch Anne Lister’s journey resonate with fans since we began this trip more than five years ago, thanks to Sally Wainwright, the show’s creator. Bringing Anne and Ann’s tale to life was a dream come true for the whole cast and crew, and we owe a debt of gratitude to them all. Our colleagues at BBC and Lookout Point have also helped us produce two exceptional seasons. HBO Max subscribers may view both seasons of Gentleman Jack.
