This universe is rich with formidable weaponry and many of them have been used in Marvel Studios films. In the Thor flicks, this is more apparent than anywhere else. Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder has Mjolnir and Stormbreaker, two hammers that allow him to harness the power of the storms that bear his name. While the Eternal Flame fueled the deity Surtur and his Twilight Sword, the Casket of Eternal Winters may coat its victims in an everlasting layer of cold. This will continue with All-Black the Necrosword, which Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) wields in his attempt to slay every deity that has ever been in Thor: Love and Thunder The Necrosword is a fictional weapon that grants its wielder superhuman abilities. Anyone who uses it is enveloped in a cloak of living shadows and gains superhuman strength and speed.
Gorr has slain dragons and cut a moon in two with the weapon he wields. “Black Berserkers” are monsters made from the shadows around his body. Even if you’re a god or not, the Berserkers are a powerful army, because of Gorr’s capacity to spawn hordes of Berserkers that can overwhelm any opponent. In the King Thor miniseries by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic, the Necrosword tormented Gorr after he appeared to have died in combat against Thor. Like its wielder, the Necrosword’s past is filled with violence and devastation. Gorr found it when he stumbled upon a god and a deity engaged in a duel. Gorr seized the Necrosword and used it to kill his wife and children while he was enraged at the deities for not responding to his pleas. Agar and his long-dead wife Agar’s dark images were still used to slaughter gods beyond time and space. When Gorr was faced by his victims during his fight with Thor, they revealed that he had become the one thing he despises: a god. Gorr was overcome by Thor, who snatched the Necrosword from him and used it to kill the God Butcher.
Gorr was overcome by terror. The Necrosword can be used by more than just Gorr. It was Loki, Thor’s brother, who received the blade from King Thor, and became obsessed with murdering the cosmos as a result. Before reviving Gorr, Galactus and Ego the Living Planet would be possessed by the Devourer of Worlds. This time, Gorr had set up the world to explode in an attempt to repeat his earlier attempts with the Godbomb, which he had built in his youth in an attempt to wipe out all gods. Thor, in his old age, would sacrifice himself to prevent Gorr from destroying the cosmos, placing his daughters in charge of Midgard after he died. The weapon used by Gorr in the films is a far cry from this one in terms of sheer might. With the Black Berserkers, Gorr may create a wide range of challenges for Thor to deal with, including numerous species of Black Berserkers that have varying sizes, shapes, and abilities.
This sword in the movie also allows Gorr to walk into the shadows, making him incredibly difficult to kill. Although the God Butcher is a formidable opponent to the gods he hunts, the sword he wields is cursed and slowly kills the person who holds it. Jane Foster’s (Natalie Portman) journey in the film is a gloomy mirror image of this. Mjolnir, Thor’s reforged hammer, gives Jane the might of Thor, but it also accelerates her cancer and shortens her life. Because it’s a symbiote, the Necrosword is linked to another Marvel character. Venom and Spider-friend, Man’s the extraterrestrial monster from outer space. As written by Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman in Venom #4: The Complete Story: When Knull, the deity of symbiotes, created All-Black, he intended to use it in the battle against the Celestials, whom he saw as a danger to his reign of endless darkness. One of Knull’s spacecraft and one of the Celestial Warriors fell to Gorr’s planet while Knull and All-Black fought the Celestials. In the King in Black miniseries by Cates & Stegman, Knull would eventually recover possession of the Necrosword and launch an invasion of Earth, but Eddie Brock would eventually defeat the dark deity and steal both his blade and his title. When Jane obliterates the NecroSword by encasing it in Mjolnir and destroying it with lightning, it seems doubtful that this link would be mentioned.
