With Focus Features’ latest announcements, Bobby Farrelly’s newest feature Champions has been moved forward to March 24, 2023, for a broad release in theatres. Directing the picture will be a familiar name to anyone familiar with great comedies like There’s Something About Mary and Dumb and Dumber, which Farrelly has previously worked on with his brother Peter. When it comes to writing the screenplay for Champions, Mark Rizzo, who worked on Green Eggs and Ham, will be in charge. A minor-league basketball coach (Woody Harrelson) will star in the film. Actress Kaitlin Olson, well known for her role as Dee Reynolds on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, will join Harrelson and Ernie Hudson in an unspecified role.
Cheech Marin and Matt Cook from Cheech and Chong will appear in the film (Being the Ricardos). Champions’ narrative is still a mystery, although an earlier rumour from Deadline claims that it would be based on the 2018 Spanish comedy-drama film Campeones. The Special Olympics team Aderes of Valencia, which won 12 Spanish championships in 15 years and was praised by reviewers, was the inspiration for the critically acclaimed film. Goya Awards for Best Film, Best New Actor for Jess Vidal, and Best Original Song for “Este es el momento” by Coque Malla were given to the film because of its strong critical reception.
When it comes out next spring, lovers of the sports genre should keep an eye out for the English-language version of the film, which features an impressive cast and a well-known director who has previously worked in humour. Along with Jeremy Plager, the film will be produced by Gold Circle Entertainment’s Paul Brooks and Scott Niemeyer and 7 Deuce Entertainment’s Jeremy Plager. Brad Kessell, Alexander Joos, lvaro Longoria, Javier Fesser and Luis Manso will all be co-executive producing the picture alongside Harrelson.
On the 24th of March 2023, a limited theatrical run of Champions will be made available. View the official synopsis below to learn more about the forthcoming movie: As a former minor-league basketball coach forced to lead a team of players with intellectual impairments by the courts, Harrelson is humorous and touching in CHAMPIONS. He quickly finds that, despite his concerns, this crew is capable of doing more than he ever thought possible when they work together.
