Shira Haas (Unorthodox) and Stephen Graham (The Irishman) have signed on to feature in Netflix’s thriller series, Bodies. In addition to the previously confirmed cast members including Jacob Fortune-Lloyd from “The Queen’s Gambit,” Kyle Soller from “The Inheritance,” and Amaka Okafor from “The Inheritance,” Deadline has unveiled the newest cast members (The Responder). It is Netflix’s adaptation of Si Spencer’s revolutionary graphic novel, which is based on the same name. Each decade has a detective working to solve a cold case in London, and the four timeframes are intertwined.
In the 1890s, Inspector Edmond Hillinghead is tasked with solving the case of the notorious Jack the Ripper while keeping his personal secrets under wraps at the same time. During WWII, Inspector Charles Whiteman is faced with the biggest challenge of his career: uncovering a difficult murder that might lead to the discovery of those above him that he has been implicated in racketeering. In 1940, WWII is still raging. Moving forward in time by 74 years, Detective Sergeant Shahara Hasan is on the prowl for a nationalist terrorist cell suspected of being responsible for a murder.
Finally, we arrive in the year 2050, in a post-apocalyptic society devoid of any form of modern technology. Maplewood, a detective known only as Maplewood, has come upon a body that may lead her to uncover clues that were previously assumed to be lost in time. What if this is the murder that connects all the unsolved cases dating back more than 150 years? Elias Mannix will be played by Graham, while Maplewood will be played by Haas. However, based on the narrative we can surmise that Haas’ choice as Maplewood was a wonderful decision by the producers and we can’t wait to witness the Shtisel actress take down criminals in a barren world.
For the other roles, Fortune-Llyod plays Inspector Whiteman, Okafor plays Detective Sergeant Hasan, and Soller plays Inspector Hillinghead. Paul Tomalin penned the script for Bodies, which was directed by Beat’s Marco Kreutzpaintner before being taken over by Haolu Wang. Danusia Samal and Tomalin are writing together on a new project. The show has yet to announce an official launch date, but keep checking back with Collider for updates as they become available.
