The Anarchists, a docuseries about the anti-government movement that brought together liberals, bitcoin aficionados, and families opposed to conventional schooling, has received a new trailer and key art from HBO. To better understand how different anarchist organisations interpret the notion, the series’ documentaries will also focus on the ideology’s limitations. In 2015, Jeff Berwick, a Canadian entrepreneur, convened an event to debate the genuine potential of social organisation without the existence of government and central bank institutions. The docuseries will explore this movement.
Being held in Acapulco, Mexico, the event was dubbed “Anarchapulco” and attracted a wide range of participants from libertarians and fugitives to right-wing families who wanted to flee harsh governments. Even as Berwick’s group grew, it became clear that bringing together such a diverse group of people may be difficult, especially at a time when an agreement is often seen as an inherently dangerous sign. HBO’s new docuseries “Anarchapulco” profile some of the primary personalities engaged in the yearly event in order to better understand what sparked the birth of the movement.
The Anarchists has a diverse cast of characters, including hesitant leader Berwick, anarchist militants Lisa and Nathan Freeman, and two American fugitives on the run from drug charges, John Galton and Lily Forester. The docuseries promises to investigate the internal issues that called into question the entire “Anarchapulco” movement in addition to uncovering what brought them all together. The Anarchists, a documentary film by Blumhouse Television Productions for HBO Documentary Films, was made. Todd Schramke is behind the camera for this miniseries.
Executive producers include Jason Blum (Bird Murmur), Jeremiah Crowell (Jeremiah Crowell), Kim Kylland (Bird Murmur), Jeremy Gold (Mary Lisio), James Buddy Day (Andre Gaines), and Allen Bain (HBO) Tina Nguyen is HBO’s senior producer, while Ben Parry is the co-executive producer. HBO and HBO Max present the series debut of The Anarchists on Sunday, July 10 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. It will then be released weekly on Sundays for the next six episodes of the six-part docuseries.
The official plot summary for The Anarchists is as follows:
For six years, a weird and tragic series of events are chronicled in The Anarchists. To begin with, it was a one-off event, but now it has become an annual event that attracts speakers such as Ron Paul and BitCoin investor Roger Ver to talk about the future of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. In one of the world’s most dangerous cities, a group of rule-avoidant freedom advocates comes together, and utopian philosophy clashes with the unpredictable character of human nature. As a result, friendships are strained, rivalries are stoked, and even worse, people lose their lives.
