New pictures for Netflix’s Resident Evil provide more information about the impending series, including the best look yet at the adaptation’s zombie canines. Additionally, Entertainment Weekly talked with showrunner Andrew Dabb about the upcoming show’s enigmatic promise. This was in addition to posting the latest photographs. The Resident Evil series takes set at two separate points in time, completely breaking from the core video game franchise canon. When scientist Albert Wesker (Lance Reddick) relocates to New Raccoon City in 2022 with his daughters Jade (Tamara Smart) and Billie (Billie Jean King), a portion of the series takes place in that year (Siena Agudong).
In New Raccoon City, a zombie breakout is inevitable, and the two young girls will have to learn the ins and outs of fighting the undead. It will also follow an adult Jade (Ella Balinska) 14 years after New Raccoon City was devastated by the T-Virus outbreak. The new photos give us a look at Jade’s adult life as she faces a swarm of zombies from both the past and the present of the Resident Evil television series. As Jade’s husband, Raj (Ahad Raza Mir), is sure to find himself embroiled in some unpleasant family past, the photos show him as well. Pictures of two little sisters fleeing a looming threat are also seen in the newer images.
Resident Evil is still a mystery, but we can already tell that the two sisters represent the series’ emotional core. Dabb also discussed the disparity in personality between Jade and Billie in conjunction with the release of the new photographs. Here’s how Dabb puts it:
“When things become tough, Jade may be caustic and abrupt, but she also has a serious side. The way she was brought up made her build a lot of barriers. Jade is a person who wears a full set of armour whenever possible.” On the other side, Billie is a mild-mannered individual who genuinely cares about the people and things around her.
During his description of the female, Dabb stated: “In this case, you’ve got a character who’s both sympathetic and a bit less upfront than her sister, but she’s also dealing with her own personal troubles. It’s clear that this individual has a great deal of empathy for both humans and animals. She is a vegan and an advocate for PETA. If she were to walk on an ant, she wouldn’t think twice about it. It’s time to go.”
As a final point, Dabb remarked on how the performance examines two linked timelines, with each half of the act offering new jigsaw pieces that aid in the audience’s understanding of what is happening in the past and present. In the words of Dabbs: “Ideally, they’ll construct on top of one other. The premise is that you’ll witness things in the future tale. As if to say, ‘Wait! “How did this happen?” You’ll find out in that episode or a few episodes down the road. Future storylines are a mystery in certain respects. What route did they use to get here? What shifted in these relationships? As a result, we’ve been able to piece together the information. If you’re watching, you’ll see how the story’s strands begin to connect as we progress.”
Resident Evil also features Paola Nuez, Ahad Raza Mir, Connor Gossatti, and Turlough Convery. Streaming service Netflix will release the series on July 14.
