The science fiction series Night Sky, produced by Prime Video, will be cancelled after only one season. Deadline reports that the streamer has chosen to discontinue the programme after just one season owing to low audience ratings. Pre-premiere, Night Sky was one of the most anticipated shows in 2022, promising a riveting experience for its viewers. Holden Miller, the show’s writer, has characterised the show as “kind of witnessing something extremely monumental, but from a location that seems like it’s your own bedroom.” In an effort to appeal to fans of different genres, the show tried to incorporate aspects of science fiction with warmth and comedy.
It would have been tough to attain this delicate equilibrium. The premiere of Night Sky on Prime Video on May 20th, with all 8 episodes available at once, was well-received. Unfortunately, the initial enthusiasm faded quickly, as viewers grew increasingly disinterested as the season went on. The cancellation announcement comes just six weeks after its launch. Irene and Franklin York, played by Oscar winners Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons, are the subject of Night Sky, a film about an elderly couple.
The Yorks discovered a portal in their home that opens to a mysterious deserted planet years ago, and the discovery becomes their best-kept secret, but its exposure looms when neighbours become suspicious of their frequent activities at odd hours and begin to interrogate them about their strange behaviour. After encountering Jude, a man/alien from another planet, they proceed to learn more about the alien planet. Night Sky may not have lived up to expectations, but it made history as the first streamed show to be sent into space. By working with AWS, SES, and Intelsat, Amazon Prime Video was able to send the first episode of the programme into orbit.
As co-executive producers, Amazon Studios and Legendary Television collaborated with the show’s creator and writer, Holden Miller, as well as co-writers Daniel C. Connolly, Jimmy Miller, Sam Hansen, and Philip Martin. Night Sky’s actors will be moving on to other projects now that it has been cancelled. After that, she’ll be featured in Le Gallo’s feature directorial debut, Sam & Kate, a comedy that has yet to be given a release date. With Our Man from Jersey, which also features Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry, Simmons is now filming.
Roco Hernández, Kiah McKirnan, Chai Hansen, and Adam Bartley round out the cast of Night Sky. It’s still possible to watch the first season of Night Sky on Amazon Prime Video.
