Connie Jenkins-Greig has joined Netflix’s unnamed Bridgerton prequel series as a regular cast member. Deadline reports that she’ll be a younger Violet Ledger, the Bridgerton matriarch that fans have come to know and love in the main series. Katie Brayben and Keir Charles have been cast as Vivian and Lord Ledger, respectively, in the role of the actress’s parents. Violet, the younger version of Ruth Gemmell’s character, is depicted as compassionate and interested in the spinoff, although she hasn’t started looking for a partner yet. Most of the story revolves around the youthful Queen Charlotte (India Ria Amarteifio), who becomes one of England’s most well-known queens throughout the course of the show.
When she marries Charles I (Corey Mylchreest), the English society changes forever, and the Ton becomes what the characters of Bridgerton know it to be. While Charlotte is the main focus, there will be several stories about a young Violet before she became a Bridgerton and a young Lady Danbury (Arsema Thomas). Additionally, Sam Clemmett, Hugh Sachs and Richard Cunningham appear in the prequel series as well as Michelle Fairley and Sam Clemmett. As with Bridgerton, Shonda Rhimes will serve as showrunner, executive producer, and writer for the new series.
Executive producers Tom Verica and Betsy Beers join her on the set, with the former serving as both producer and director. Even though Rhimes modified the original Bridgerton from Julia Quinn’s books for the Netflix series, it was Rhimes who included Queen Charlotte into the story. Jennifer Greig (born Jennifer Greig) is a British actress best known for performances in films such as The Take Down and The Kid Who Would Be King, as well as on television in shows such as Mr Selfridge and New Blood. However, considering the show’s wide appeal, appearing in a Bridgerton production would be a significant step forward.
Taking on the role of a character who has been a mainstay of the programme since its inception will be a tall order for her. It’s also an opportunity to glimpse Violet Bridgerton and Edmund Bridgerton’s early days of courtship. Aside from Stranger Things, Bridgerton is one of Netflix’s most popular original series. In only a few months after its second season premiered in March, it surpassed the previous season’s massive 625 million hours of viewing time in 28 days to become the most-watched English-language series on the streaming service. In addition to the sequel series, Netflix has announced plans for a third and fourth season, ensuring that the show will be a fixture on the site for some time. Rhimes’ success as a writer and showrunner may be attributed in part to the show.
The prequel series to Queen Charlotte is scheduled to premiere in 2023.
