Luke Hemsworth’s performance as Thor from Thor: Ragnarok is being used in a series of advertisements for Old Spice that are being aired in advance of the release of Thor: Love and Thunder. Chris Hemsworth may be the genuine Thor, but his brother Luke Hemsworth plays the role in a more comedic manner. A tweet containing the following message was used to disseminate the Old Spice commercial: “Smell like a God. Or, if you prefer, a human actor portraying the role of a god. Utilize Old Spice Dry Spray to Achieve the Smell of Actor Thor.” In the commercial, Hemsworth can be seen dressed in a costume that is reminiscent of the one he wore in the third Thor movie.
The “award-winning Asgardian actor” describes what it’s like to portray the God of Thunder, describing the experience as “electrifying” in the clip that’s done in the form of a mockumentary. In between clips showing the making of the commercial from behind the scenes, the actor portraying false Thor makes a few tongue-in-cheek comments about the fact that he looks like Thor. In the advertisement, he is quoted as saying, “A lot of people believe me and him seem like siblings, cousins maybe.” The scene concludes with a phoney Thor proclaiming that he is “worthy” while attempting to grab a prop version of Mjolnir that hangs from the ceiling.
The funny advertisement makes a reference to Hemsworth’s cameo as a phoney version of Thor in the 2017 film Thor: Ragnarok. In that film, Hemsworth played a version of the character in a play that was put on by Loki. Matt Damon (Stillwater) and Sam Neill (Jurassic World Dominion) both appeared in that comic sequence with their respective roles as Loki and Odin, respectively. The advertisement is released just as Thor: Love and Thunder, the fourth film in the Thor trilogy, is getting ready to hit theatres throughout the world. Taika Waititi, who most recently oversaw the production of Thor: Ragnarok, is back in the director’s chair for the upcoming movie.
It follows Thor as he embarks on a mission of self-discovery. However, his efforts to find inner tranquilly are thwarted when the furious killer Gorr the God Butcher, portrayed by Christian Bale, shows up. Thor enlists the assistance of Valkyrie (played by Tessa Thompson), Korg (played by Waititi), and his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (played by Natalie Portman), who, to his amazement, has changed into The Mighty Thor, in order to combat Gorr. In addition, members of the Guardians of the Galaxy, such as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Groot (Vin Diesel), Drax (Dave Bautista), and Mantis (Zoe Saldana), will appear in the movie once again (Pom Klementieff). On July 8, audiences will be able to see Thor: Love and Thunder in cinemas.
