Fans can view the continuation of Goku and Vegeta’s struggle against Gas of the Heeter Force in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 85, titled To Each His Own Answer, which was released today on Viz Media. Vegeta Ultra Ego and Vegeta Ultra Instinct Even though Goku and Vegeta paired up in the last chapter, it wasn’t enough to defeat Gas. Goku pulls out the ideal form to battle Gas in this month’s chapter: Ultra Instinct – Sign form. Much of Chapter 85 concentrates on Goku thrashing Gas, and although it’s exciting, it’s also starting to seem tedious.
The Granolah the Survivor Arc no longer feels like it’s about the titular lone Cerealian survivor, instead of focusing on the fight with Gas and the Heeter Force, despite the fact that the present struggle has little emotional interest on both sides. Unlike the latest chapter of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, which revealed a major plot twist while also delivering some action sequences, there are no significant plot or character developments in this chapter as Gas continues to transform, largely thanks to Elec reminding him of his true purpose.
Gas is an overpowering adversary that renders Goku and Vegeta’s greatest forms worthless, which is one of the reasons why Granola the Survivor Arc is one of Dragon Ball Super’s arcs.
Sure, we get to witness Vegeta unleash a new Ultra Ego form that helps him become stronger as he absorbs more damage, but that was a flop, so what’s the point of adding a new power-up if it can’t even come close to beating the villain? The Dragon Ball series is infamous for its seemingly unending power-ups, but the previous arcs did a good job of building up to them, and the effects of their training and skill can be seen in their confrontations. The Tournament of Power of the Universe Survival Saga, for example, focused on the fight against Universe 6’s Jiren, but the reason it’s exciting is that Jiren wasn’t just an overpowered and typical “evil” villain; he also brought out the best in Goku, with spectators cheering when the Saiyan unleashed his Ultra Instinct form or how he and Frieza teamed-up to eliminate Jiren.
Granolah the Survivor Arc lacks that thrill; instead, manga readers are lured into a senseless battle. What happened to the plot of the current arc? What about Granolah’s vengeance quest? Even if he defeated Goku’s father, Bardock, 40 years ago on Planet Cereal, who cares about an overpowered foe like Gas?
What’s the point of the flashback if it doesn’t appear to have much of an effect on the present battle? On Viz Media, you can now read Dragon Ball Super Chapter 85.
